Our last day in Thailand (for now) was spent travelling North to the border with Laos.
The journey was 6 hours altogether which went pretty quickly, thank God although not surprising as the driver absolutely tanked it. We stopped for lunch in Chiang Rai, which we were going to originally visit for a couple of days but an hour was enough. It seemed like just the one street. We saw the white temple whilst there which is the main tourist attraction. We didn't go inside as we know what the inside of temples look like now.
We arrived at our accommodation at the border around 4pm. It wasn't a fancy place at all but it would do for one night.
We went out for tea with a few others from the minibus and then I had an early night ready for our 7:30am wake up call. Mark chose beer over an early night, not much has changed.
Thailand has been an interesting yet enjoyable start to our backpacking adventure.
Our stay in Bangkok was a few days too long and the constant hassling off traders and tuk tuk drivers got annoying pretty quickly but it toughened us up. If someone tried to sell us something on the street we went from politely saying 'no thank you' to ignoring them which seems rude but not in Thailand.
Chiang Mai was great though. A chance to walk down the street without anyone hassling you. We did some awesome trips as well, elephants and Thai cooking.
Bring on Laos! The picture with this post is our view of Laos, taken in Thailand.
