Rachel's Travels...
Arrived in Napier today - the Art Deco capital of New Zeland.
Left Gisborne and headed towards Napier - it was quite a long drive - not in distance but in the fact that the road was so windey and hilly. Reached Napier about 1.30pm which is where I got off the bus. Napier is a really cool place. The city was
completely destroyed by an earthquake in 1931 and had to be completely rebuilt. So they did it in an Art Deco style. The hostel I'm staying in - the Criterion Art Deco Backpackers in an Art Deco building. Its a really pretty town. Didn't do much today - just went for a walk up to Bluff Point which only overlooks the
docks which was a bit of a shame - especially as I had
knackered myself out walking up there! There was another person my room (apart from Jill who was on the East As bus with me) called Mary from Ireland. We went down to the bar below the hostel and entered the pub quiz. We came 2nd and won a $30 bar tab. We both had cocktails called Blue Lagoon. Had already had a couple of drinks so went to be feeling a little tipsy!
