Rachel's Travels...
Got up at 7am to do a walk in the Abel Tasman National Park. It was absolutely stunning - amazing scenery and brilliant weather. The trip was a coach-cruise-walk combo. I got the coach from Nelson to Kaiteriteri which is in Abel Tasman, then got on a boat which took me to Torrent Bay, and then I walked about 13km back to Marahau. But the girl at the hostel who couldn't speak very good english and booked my ticket didn't do it right. I ended up at Marahau and had to get on a speed boat to catch the main boat that dropped me off at Torrent Bay. The scenery really is incredible - I can't believe that I wasn't going to come here. Adam was right when he said it was somewhere I had to go. The walk goes along the coast in parts, which is so amazing - brilliant clear blue water and beautiful golden sandy beaches. But just over half the walk is through the forest that sits on the coast. I walked for just over an hour and came to Cleopatras Pool. It isn't really a pool, but a stretch of river with a mini waterfall that widens to form a sort of pool of water. It was very nice and pretty so I stopped here for a little rest.
But then had to head on as I didn't want to miss the bus that would pick me up from Marahau. Decided to walk by myself so I could stop and take as many photos as I wanted too (and I took loads!). Passed some really pretty bays such as Anchorage and Stilwell Bay (which wasn't really still as it was quite windy there), where there were kayakers. Had lunch at a nice spot called Appletree Bay (I didn't see any apple trees), but didn't stay too long as my feet were starting to ache, and stupidly I was running out of water and the water from the streams had a too high mineral content to drink from. So I pressed on. Went past Coquille Bay, Porters Beach, Tinline Bay and Stu's lookout before reaching the wooden walkways leading to Marahau which signified the end of the walk. I finished the walk at 3.50, over an hour quicker than the average walking time - I was well chuffed with that! At the end of the walkways was a cafe - a welcome sight. I ordered a water and an orange juice and downed them straight away as I was really thirsty. Off came my walking boots as well. Also had a really nice banana milkshake before getting on the 4.50pm coach to take me back to the hostel in Nelson.
Went out for something to eat with the three girls from my hostel who I saw on the walk. Went to a nice place near the cathedral called The House of Ale, and I had steak and chips - yum yum! Then it was back to the hostel and to bed as I was knackered.
