Got up ready to be picked up at 7.30am and taken to the airport for my flight to Oahu, Hawaii at 10.30am. I am flying with American Airlines again and checked in at the self service kisok and dropped off my bag. My ticket said that seats couldn't be assigned at this time and will be done at the gate. I didn't really think anything of it and joined the line for security. The line was out of the terminal building. I have never seen a line so big for security before. When I got through security eventually I headed to the gate and asked for a seat number. The lady said that the flight was oversold and they would call my name when a seat number came available. I was apparently on standby. I got to the airport early and checked in but I guess all the seat numbers had been taken by people who had checked in online. I couldn't seem to be able to check in online on my ticket. I had to wait until most people had boarded until I knew if I was getting on the flight. There was another flight at 5pm so it wasn't going to be the end of the world if I couldn't get this flight but luckily I got a seat so I boarded the plane. Had been hoping to be upgraded to First Class but the boarding card said economy. Damn! People around me were complaining about their seats. I was thinking 'they should be lucky they got a seat on the flight as it was oversold and some people had to get the later one'. It took about 5 hours and 45 minutes. I got a shuttle to my hostel - Waikiki Beachside. It's right next to the beach. There were loads of surfers on the beach today. Waikiki is the most tourist area on the island. I am in a 8 bed dorm but there are only 4 of us so far. I am staying in Waikiki for 5 nights. I had a look around Waikiki for a bit. It's very hot but the island has a nice breeze everyday. In the evening I just chilled out with my dorm mates - Hannah, Jess and Adam.
