So on to Rishikesh, made famous by the Beatles visit to the Ahrams in order to practise Yoga, meditate and write the White Album. However much like Ringo Star apparently the yoga didn't appeal to us as much as the many hippies and dreadlocked vegans which Rishikesh attracts. However, The Ganges (at its cleanest, exiting the Himalayas) was fantastic for a swim, the surroundings, lack of motor vehicals and fantastic food did.
The first thing Hannah wanted to do was go for a dip, very nice it was too, nice a cold and a refreshing escape from the heat. There are loads of beaches all up from town where we could find our own peace and quiet. We also took a walk up to some beautiful waterfalls further up the valley and rock hopped about 3km back into town. The restaurants were some of the best we've come across so far (albeit not predominantly Indian) but filled us up and one made the best fresh fruit slush puppies type things we've ever had.
It is a beautiful spot even if Yoga is not on the agenda and we are sad to leave.
