I've spent the last week frolicking with the primates!!! Orangutans, gibbons, proboscis monkeys, squirrel monkeys and long tail lima's! Its been pretty damn cool week!!!!! Not only am I helping the local boys out with their English but I'm cleaning night enclosures, preparing food and feeding! I've learnt so much already to the point that I get to do the public feeding sessions!!! at 2pm each day they have gibbon and orangutan feeding were all the visitors can come and watch. I get to wear a microphone and feed the animals explaining to them about each monkey! Haha! Fancy that!!
During the day it gets pretty boring as I just have to walk about so visitors can approach me to ask questions about the animals... And make sure no one is feeding them...so Before I knew it I was sitting in the cafe having a 2 hr lunch break while the midday movie was on :)... So instead Of drinking myself stupid with coffee i started going to the twice daily animal show and met the boys in charge! They are Awesome! Lots of fun and really easy going! So now im helping out with that! Awesome baby!
So Work starts at 7:30am and finishes at 5pm... After work It's shower time and back to the cafe for dinner or head into the nearby town (donggonon) for dinner.... Followed in both scenarios by a lot of drinking and karaoke! So the drinking culture here is insane!! Not the Muslims of course... But the locals.. they drink every night still comatosed!! Seriously! I like to drink but wow.. Im struggling with all this beer!! They laugh and say they are well trained! Hahaha! Last night i didn't drink and their response was similar to that 'say no to drinking' add campaign in aus about the girl saying 'no' and the whole world stops! To the point where a few of them got quite upset.. And one girl (Tina) actually grabbed my head and poured beer over my closed mouth!! 6 nights being plastered with them is apparently not enough! The funny thing is though... Tina threw up and went home.. The other girls couldn't even talk and today... They didn't even remember I wasn't drinking!!! They just remember my crazy dancing!!! Hahahaha!!!!!!!!
One of the days during the week I met this cool Aussie family (born in the US) at the zoo! We walked around most of the day together.. Grabbed lunch and just generally just got along really well!
Another girl I've met here is Dr Diana the mexican vet at lok Kawi... Shes been here in Sabah for 4.5 months and in that time she's learnt English as well as basic Malay! I've asked if I can follow her around for a week and see what she does.. She's all excited that I want to! So we r going organize that for a week! At her home ATM she has a baby sunbear, a squirrel and a possum!!! I'm gonna come over and visit for sure!
So over all this week has been pretty darn good! More to come- bring it on!
