First day at the Lok Kawi wildlife park started with a hangover! Haha. Last night JB came over to introduce himself and took me out for a welcome dinner at dungunun (local town 6km away) where he ordered us a huge feast of really tasty fish, prawns, Vegas and mee gorang (fried noodles) + beer of course hAha. We ate up our fill and headed to meet his friends Henry and Tina at his local bar.. And continue
Drinking... Met some cool locals - a guy named Jerry who works for the local broadband company! So a few beers turned into many beers.. Boy they like to drink. Malaysian words I learnt last night were - Jung un risow (don't worry), ha bis (finish your drink), aramighty (cheers), salamat malam (good evening), siapa Nama awa (what's your name?)...
So the beer flowed as did the karaoke :S haha! Home time around 4am... Early morning start: 7:30!!!
So today I met the bosses.. Pretty nice, not much Craic - time will tell! Haha after the meeting I met up the wildlife rescue unit and headed to Kota bleud (2hrs north from lok Kawi) where we were to capture a king cobra that was hanging a lil to close to a locals house... The team were awesome! They captured it quickly, popped it in a bag, had a smoke then off we went! Haha. They even gave me a guided tour of the area and took me to the beach! The Sabah countryside is stunning! Green hills abutting the beach, with wild horses roaming the hills! The rainforest here extend throughout the whole country! Today was awesome! It was great to see the local villages along the way and see some of the real Sabah!
After we arrived back to the park I headed home to find that I have a new friend staying with me for the night.. And will b coming and going over the next 2 weeks! Her name is shida from KL.. She's here as a representative of her palm oil plantations company to undertake some conservation work to show the public that the palm oil guys arnt too bad! pretty interesting stuff.. Palm trees plantations are everywhere here... They log the jungle to plant palm trees for palm oil.. And it's killing the naive wildlife.. Shida was saying she's used to people getting upset with her about the environmental issues! Haha poor girl! Anyway tonight JB is taking us out again.. This time indian! Apparently it's famous in the whole of Sabah for it's fishhead curry - 'special recipe'! Ha wish me luck!
I'm so wrecked though.. Kinda hoping I get an early night tonight- somehow I'm not so sure :)
