G'day Everyone!
We had a lovely time in Phuket with James's Grandparents and actually stayed longer than intended due to the problems at Bankok airport. We were flying out from Phuket to Singapore but our plane was stuck in Bangkok airport. We were packing the night before and I got a text to say the flight had been canceled! Luckily we got booked on a flight out a few days later - unfortunately this meant we only had 2 nights in Singapore instead of 6.
Singapore was absulutely amazing! In Thailand you wouldn't have known it was Christmas time at all but Singapore was really festive. All the lights were up and we went to Orchard Road - the main shopping area - on our first night - Magic!! Christmas carols and trees everywhere we went!
In Singapore we stayed at Sleepy Sams - and we had a lovely cosy room. We were in the Arab quarter of Singapore, near little India. Our little quiet street was pretty with a huge white and gold mosque at the end - unfortunately the singing woke us up at 5am each morning - but we got used to it!
The next day we went to Singapore zoo - one of the best zoos in the world. Its very open plan and free range, no cages, and most of the animals were able to move around pretty much anywhere! It was amazing to see moneys in trees above your head and strange big birds walking around the zoo with you!! The polar bears were great and we had a brilliant day!! That night we went for some dinner in China Town (probably the best food we've had so far) and finished the night off with a Singapore Sling at the Raffles hotel bar where the drink was invented!
Sadly our short time in Singapore came to an end but we had Australia to come next so we were super excited!!!
My Cousins, James and Laura live in Sydney, so they picked us up from the airport when we landed Friday morning. Although we'd had no sleep on the flight over we we were so happy to be in Sydney and see them!! They dropped us off at the flat and went to work while we catched up on some much needed sleep.
That night we all went to Bondi beach (really close to where they live). We had some drinks and something to eat at The Iceberg which overlooked Bondi - brilliant! The next day we had a Barbeque on Bronte beach and met some of James and Laura's friends. The place was full of people with BBQs, they even have hot plate areas for you to cook food on! The atmosphere was great - people playing games and sunbathing! We went for a dip in sea which was so strong - and apparantely the waves were quiet small compared to usual! That night we went into the city and saw the harbour bridge and Sydney Opera house - what an unbelievable view!! We went for drinks at the bar under the Opera house and while we were there we sawfireworks display over the Opera House which was amazing! We can't believe what a great couple of first days we'd had!
On Sunday we went with James and Laura to pick up a Christmas Tree and decorations for the flat. We put the tree up and sat down to a Yummy Sunday Dinner my cousin James had made for us! Boy had we missed that! The tree looked great a perfect ending to a fab weekend!!
I can tell we're really going to like it here!
