We've had an amazing past few weeks on some of the most beautiful islands and beaches in Thailand. First stop was Krabi, a quiet riverside town which we stayed in for a couple of days. The place was so peaceful and had some really nice views over the river - and a great donut place - Yum!!
From here we booked the minibus to Ko Lanta, a small island near Krabi. We stayed at a lovely bungalow resort with a swimming pool. We rented a moped for a couple of days to explore the island and got some great photos. The beaches were really quiet and we even saw monkeys on our travels. At the resort we met some travellers from London and from Holland and spent the last few nights in the bar with them and some of the staff there. We spent 4 nights in Ko Lanta and had a really good time.
After this we headed to Koh Phi Phi (pronounced Pee Pee). After hearing mixed reviews (some people said that the beauty had been spoilt and there was too many tourists) we didn't know what to expect, but when we got there all that was forgotten as we had landed in paradise!! The colour of the sea was amazing - so clear and blue. There are no cars on Ko Phi Phi - as there are no roads, just narrow paths. To get to the other beaches round the island we had to walk around the coast and climb across big rocks in the sea. We spent a week here, the food was brilliant there was great restraunts and bars. Our first guest house was really shabby so we stayed there just one night. The next day we moved to Sashas Guest house - owned by a 47 year old Thai Hippy - he was great! He told us about the festival they were having the next night. It was to say thankyou to the water - everyone was going to set off lanterns into the sky and floating lanterns into the sea. The festival is called Loy Krathog and it a was really fun night.
Unfortunately the weather here didn't treat us too kind, and we had a lot of really cloudly days. We wanted to do one of the boat trips to the surrounding beaches and islands but we were waiting for a good sunny day. We booked the trip for the last day and luckily the weather was great! We had the best day - we went to Monkey Bay and saw loads of monkeys - they come out for food when all the tourist boats come in. We went snorkelling around some of the beaches and saw some amazing fish every colour of the rainbow - I was hoping to find a 'Nemo' fish but unfortunatley didn't! We did see Angel fish though and some Parrot fish. Our last stop was Maya Bay, where they filmed 'The Beach', We spent a few hours sunbathing here. The views were amazing and the sand was white and soft. Then it was back on the boat where the Captain took us to see the sunset and back home - the whole day had been brilliant!
Sadly we had to say bye to Ko Phi Phi and the other day we arrived in Phuket. I've been doing a lot of sunbathing now the sun is back out (Yay!) and James has been surfing (and yes he's pretty good!!). James's Grandma and Granddad arrive in Phuket today so we're going to meet them this afternoon. Can't wait to see familiar faces!
We'll add more photos to flickr soon!!!
Love P and James x x x
