I spent most of the day hanging around Indaba campsite waiting for my driver to arrive so that I could leave for Tanzania. I did manage a trip to the local shopping centre with Leanne and Kabelo and actually managed to change the remainder of my Chinese Yuan.
At about 4pm my driver Mugo arrived and Kabelo (who was hitching a ride with us) and I set off for Arusha. It was a pretty uneventful drive, we were all in the cab, me in the passengers seat and Kabelo on the drivers bed in the back of the cab. I sat there and watched the chaos of Kenya go by.
We reached the border at about 5pm, I love African borders, just pay the money, get the stamp and leave. The guy in the Kenyan side even flirted with me a bit, telling me to smile for the camera and then laughing at my cheesy grin. After the border it had gotten pretty dark and we couldn't see much ahead of us on the deserted road.
I sat in the cab watching the miles roll past, only able to see a few feet in front of the truck. I had Turn the Page by Metallica playing on my iPhone, the song that reminded me of my old Fez days and driving back to Istanbul from Cappadocia at night. I used to play that song and watch the sun go down on the road leading into the seemingly endless horizon. I sat there staring into the darkness and not really believing it had taken me four years to basically get back to the same spot, the same view and the same life. I zoned out completely and was grateful for the road, the darkness and the freedom.
We arrived at the workshop (dubbed the WHO) at about 8pm and met George who I am training with. I had a bit of dinner and stayed up for a bit before going to be in my room at my new home.
