I managed to sleep in this morning, well I tried, the train was so damn hot as no one could seem to get the attendants to open any of the windows and my room stunk. Our Mongolian friends personal hygiene habits would have made a monkey blush. Funnily enough they did straighten themselves up about ten minutes before they arrived. No consideration for the people they were sharing with at all.
We got off the train at about 2pm and were met by our local operators representative and excitable Chinese girl named Bobbie. Bobbie took us to the waiting transfer van, through the multitudes of people at Beijing central railway station and then went back to the office leaving us with the driver, who dropped us across the road from the alley the hotel is on, not impressed, we paid for a complete transfer not half of one.
I checked everyone in and then told them what the plan was for the next few days. I went up to my room for a much needed shower and then went out to Wangfujing street to get pizza hut in the shopping centre. After some not so good Mongolian food and almost a week of pot noodles my bacon pizza seemed like a small miracle.
After lunch I went back to the hotel and had a bit of a nap before meeting the group at 8pm to take some of them to the night markets. Colin and Andy both wanted to eat scorpions, Andy seemed convinced that he was going to get me to eat one, Colin had already said that if he tried he would put a live one down Andy's pants.
We set off and once we entered the night markets I was immediately repulsed yet again by the scorpions impaled and wiggling on their sticks. Andy found this most amusing. We got about half way in before Andy and Colin bought a stick with three scorpions on it. Andy went first, he didn't even flinch, then Colin ate his scorpion and I took photos for him, he didn't really seemed phased either. Then Andy tried to make me eat the last one, not a chance. He ended up having to settle for a picture of me holding the friend scorpion at arms-length and looking terrified. He then ate the remaining scorpion.
We then went looking for more strange grub, while completely opposed to anything involving scorpions, I was still keen to try almost anything else. Andy and Colin bought a starfish next and some soft shell crabs friend in chili. The soft shell crabs were ok, but the star fish was rank! I nearly threw up trying to swallow the bit I took out of it. I definitely prefer the crickets I had last time!
When we reached the end of the night markets Andy wanted to go for a massage, he couldn't seem to find the one he had told us about, so I took him and Colin to Dragonfly's The place I had visited during my week off before my first tour. We all got our massages in the same room, with only a flimsy chiffon curtain separating us. We all had to get into these matching brown pajama like outfits (I had to help Colin tie his up) and then we all proceeded to basically fall asleep on our massage tables.
After our spa we set about finding a pub, I took the guys to the same pub in which the two young girls had attempted to con me last time. We had a few games of pool, which I only actually lost by default. The same girls were in there again, conning tourists out of their money by saying their bar tabs were much more than they really were. We left in disgust, especially Andy who said the girls were a disgrace to China.
