I got up to go to the bathroom this morning and realized to my absolute delight that it was snowing ever so lightly. On the way back from the bathroom I collected some more kindling as the woman, whose sole purpose at the camp is to light fires, can't seem to light one that lasts more than a couple of minutes.
I got up properly at about 8am and packed up my stuff and went off to breakfast. While the guys and I were sitting drinking our coffee, it started snowing properly. Andy was absolutely beside himself, Colin almost looked terrified and Paul seemed almost indifferent, until I think he realized this could mean a snowball fight.
The snow got heavier and heavier and eventually covered the ground and all the Gers had a thing white layer on top of them, it was magical. It wasn't long before Andy and I were running around in the snow giggling…..and Colin was hiding in his Ger, he hates the cold. A dog trotted up to us all covered in snow and we took pictures of him with snow on his nose. Paul and Andy did get into a snowball fight which I videoed, until Paul realized they were missing a golden opportunity and pelted me with snowballs.
We left the camp in the snow and I sat in the back of the van on the way back to Ulaanbaatar with Colin admiring how beautiful this place looked in the white blanket that now covered it. We arrived back in the city and our guide took us to the museum of national history, which was really interesting, especially bronze age Mongolia's connections with the Turks.
After the museum we checked back into the hotel and immediately went out for lunch. We ended up at the same place we had eaten the other night and I had beef brisket, it was pretty good, but not as good as the one Colin had the other night. After lunch we went and did some shopping for the next train ride at the State Department Store and then went back to the hotel. I wanted to have a shower, but alas I got undressed only to find my sower didn't work at all. I went downstairs and demanded a new room, after the receptionist informed me I would have to pay for a new room I returned to the dragon lady, a person I don't really like. Long story short, I got new room, an upgrade with a nicer shower and a bath.
We met up for dinner and 7pm and I took everyone to the Mongolian BBQ place I had been to on the last trip, it wasn't actually as far away from the hotel as I had first thought. Everyone stuffed themselves with awesome Mongolian food and then we headed back to the hotel.
Andy, Colin and I ended up back in one of the Karaoke rooms for a while. I sang, You Oughta Know, by Alanis Morrissette and Super Massive Black Hole by Muse. I also gave Rob Zombie a go, Andy and I did Dancing Queen, by Abba and Colin and I did Come as you are and Smells like teen spirit by Nirvana, we also had a go at Rock and Roll al night by Kiss.
We stayed there for an hour before going back to our rooms, I still had to do the train allocation and was horrified to find that the idiotic local operator had not even managed to get my group in the one carriage, let alone into two compartments next to each other! Oh well, people will just have to have whats been allocated to them and they can swap if they want to. Cest la Vie!
