This was basically the last full day of the route 66 tour...and up until this stage things had been running very smoothly...but alas this was to change. We started off the day quite well leaving behind the bright lights of Las Vegas and started on our trek to LA. There are a couple of mountain ranges that we need to drive over to get from A to B and this is where we came unstuck. Our bus decided to break down on the crest of a hill in the middle of the Majave desert. A couple of belts had split and wrapped themselves around other parts...the initial prognosis was that the bus was broken...however, aft an hour enjoying the Joshua trees we were able to limp into a rest stop ( with shade, toilets and vending machines) preparing ourselves to swap coaches. However, they were able to fix the problem and we were on our way probably after another hours wait...so all in all...it could have been a lot worse. Randy joked that he had managed the whole situation to give us a real insight into what the pioneers experienced on route 66 ! We watched a movie on the Hoover dam and stopped at 'In n Out' burger place at Barstow. Then it was n the road again, Randy summarized the whole trip for us, which made us realize that we had crammed in a lot of things. We headed to the Hollywood Boulevard to look at the stars, the sign and hand prints...a lot smaller then we actually thought. Then we made our way down to Santa Monica to finish our route 66 experience and to see the Pacific ocean. The day was wrapped up with a farewell dinner where we reminsced about our favorite parts and congratulated Randy on an outstanding job ( Thomas, our coach driver lives in LA, so we said our goodbyes when we got off the coach). We exchanged email addresses and bid each other safe travels. We are both rather pooped and are looking forward to winding down the pace and having an extended nights sleep.
