The sunset over the Grand Canyon was an absolutely glorious way of finishing the day yesterday ( and now you can see the photos too). We bid farewell to the canyon on our way to the bright lights of Las Vegas. Today we had the opportunity to travel on the route 66 for over an hour...this gave us the chance to get an insight to what life was really like when the road was the main thoroughfare. On our way to the first stop we watched a very informative and humorous video on the mule trips down the canyon. Our first stop was a little town that is rekindling the ideal of route 66. It has a number of shops that not only sell gifts etc...but also reflect the spirit and determination of the people of the town. This was a great little town. Our next town was the Hackberry General Store. This had a hug collection of artifacts from the 50s and 60s...well worth a wander. We then stopped at Kingsman for a quick bite of lunch and then onto the hustle and bustle of Las Vegas. Well...what can you say...it is loud, busy, bright and crazy in every way possible. We went to the hotel...the Paris which is on the strip ( which is pretty cool). We then hot footed it to the coca-cola store and the hard rock cafe. Then we met for tea at the Golden Nugget on Fremont street...this is a very special street as every night on the hour they have a moving image on the roof ( very hard to really explain).. We watched the images that went with the song American Pie...WOW..it was absolutely fantastic. Randy then took us on an insider tour of some of the grand aspects of the city centre ( a hotel) and then we took a train ride up to the Bellagio where we saw the yummy chocolate fountain and the fantastic conservatory. We then stopped outside to watch the fountain show....pretty impressive. We then dabbled in gambling...a whole three dollars..but thought we would partake...just to say that we have !!!! One thing we noticed on the way to Vegas was their attempt to hide their phone towers by pretending that they are trees...they don't really succeed with that. It was around 41 degrees today..rather hot...but are glad that it is at least a dry heat. We are both a bit dead legged (Hannah's words!!!) tonight...but are gallantly struggling through the pain !!!!/p>
