Today was our Disneyland day. It was an early start as we were to meet our bus at 6.45am. On our way out there we found out that we only had tickets to Disneyland and not the California adventure...so when we arrived we quickly upgraded to what they call a hopper ticket so that we could go to both parks. ...and then we waited as it wasn't quite time to open...there was probably the population of Rainbow tenfold waiting to get in - the crowd was massive. We decided to start out at Cars Land...and boy we are glad we did as it was a perfect tie in to our route 66 trip. There were so many references to the mother road at every turn..from the rock formations looking like the Cadillacs to the Cozy cone hotel and the many variations on signs and icons we saw. The film cars really did pay homage to route 66. We started our visit by going on the mater junkyard jamboree which was good fun as we were towed around by the tractors at a rather fast pace. We then visited a number of shops ( yes lots of shopping) and then waited in line for about 1 3/4 hours to go on the radiator springs racer ride...and it was definitely worth every second. It not only has a racing component but a fantastic backstory ( I was in my element here!!!)... Loved every moment of it. We then went on lugi's flying tires which were tires floating on air...this was a ride of skill as you had to lean to get the tire to move...it was great fun. After a bite to eat we went and looked at the planning process involved in making car land...that was a real insight into how they decided on form and layout. We then decided that we should actually visit The Disneyland part of the park. We took the steam train around the park and then visited a couple of shops ( yes, more shopping)...we then reacted for a tad as were getting a tad puffed by this stage ( we had spent about 4 hours at car land!!!) . It was then time for the grand parade which was very lavish...some of the performers really get into it. Then we went for tea ( still all about the food) and watched the Pixar parade. We both agreed that we liked the California Adventure park more then Disneyland...but that could be to do with the absolutely brilliant Car Land!!!!! Our bus pick up wasn't until 8 but we were ready for home after tea and slowly ventured to the bus stop. We ran into Betty and Ron from the tour ( they are also taking the same flight) and waited patiently for our bus. This was where the fun and games begin. The bus came at eight and we got on the bus ( sounds simple enough) but alas a number of people were not there..but instead of waiting for five minutes and then going the driver went around the block, not once, not twice...but three times. At this stage we were both at blowing head gasket stage. When we came around for the third time one of the couples did get on...and we were nearly drunk from their fumes. To add to our overwhelming levels of happiness ( note the sarcasm dripping of that word) the bus driving was a tad ordinary and the actual bus felt like it was about to rattle to bits. Let's just say that we were exceedingly excited to get off that bus! However, other then the little bus issue and a slight case of sunburn, it was a fantastic day and a great way to wrap up our trip ( we think a visit to car land would also be a great way to finish the route 66 tour). Looking forward to a relaxing day tomorrow before we fly out at 11.30pm.
