The bus is picking us up at 9:30am. I'm exhausted. Packing the remainder of my stuff is a slow affair.
The large bus turns out to be a half empty minibus. The bus weaves up into the mountains. Some incredible scenery but sleep when you can applies on this journey. Craig plays Talisman, not possessing my mastery of uncomfortable sleeping. It takes around 8 hours with several pitstops. We choose the guesthouse Khammamy Inn with a rooftop terrace. We walk into town, Craig gets his shorts fixed and whilst we wait check out the market. A beautiful Swiss style town. On return, I can only salute the ladies handiwork on Craigs mangled shorts. If Bruce Banner ever needs a tailor, he could do no better. We walk along both rivers, Mekong and Khan. Still have no bearings and we get a tuk tuk back as in failing light we are lost. We shower and head in for dinner. Find a lao BBQ restaurant and I get the wood fired hot pot. Chicken and buffalo with lots of fresh veg. Water fills the base, with a lump of fat melting at the top. The meat juices flavour the stock. Each bowl becomes increasingly flavoursome. We are both tired after our adventure in Vang Vieng and wander through the night market. We find an alley with street food and will try tomorrow night.
