DANGARS GORGE - OXLEY WILD RIVERS NATIONAL PARK
Our detour lead us to be able to experience this fantastic 120m waterfall in Dangars Gorge, which is approx 20 km SE of Armidale. With wheelchair access to the viewing platform a short roll from the car park, it is really well catered for the drive by thermos goer, to the various lengths and intense, hiking enthusiasts.
We spent a couple of hours here, walking to the top of the falls, around the rim of the gorge and out on the Rock Wallaby track which over looks adjacent to the falls and views of the river as it snakes throughout the Gorge - just magic! ( see photo albums)
After the eight or so inches of rain that had been dumped in the last few days, there were torrents of water pummeling over the falls edge, so much so, we could feel the water spray, as it ricocheted off the gorge walls 70m below, mist over our bodies as we soaked up the view from a lookout near by.
With plenty of well maintained picnic benches strewn throughout the bush over looking the river we decided to rest our legs and put the feed bag on.
As we departed we investigated a few camping sites a little further up the way that were extremely inviting - so we are very keen to meander back this way in a few weeks and avail ourselves of the brilliant camp spot and part take in the 8hr hike down to the rock pools, as recommended by a local chap and his son we met on the track.
