KOSCIUSZKO NATIONAL PARK
Well it's a balmy 15 degrees here as night decends upon Jindabyne. The autumn colours are beginning to turn and the snowy mountains are looking fabulous!!
We trekked about, met some of the locals, and soaked up the beautiful air of the mountains.
No trip to the snowys would be complete without a skinny dip in the river- OMG was it cold, but refreshing and soothing to tired muscles. Its kinda one of those unwritten rules, that you must go swimming if there is a body of water to plunge yourself in!!! Enduring the 1000 needles of freezing pain is all part of the exhilarating experience. We'll maybe that was just me and my weirdo siblings!!!
Mt. Kosi was beautiful, though not as spectacular as I had anticipated. Hearing about the highest peak in Australia since school days, you kinda imagine it's gonna be like everest!!! Still, well worth the visit. The landscape is so different to Victoria.
A few walks worth Venturing if you happen to be in the area-
Sawpit creek
Rainbow lake- crystal clear water, there are reminents of an old boat ramp which if your game enough you can straddle your way out in to the lake and watch the fish jump around you.
Porcupine Rocks- check out the photos
Mt. Stilwell lookout
Perisher valley- here Kezzy was reminiscing about her ski bunny days with her best friend maggie. Though I'm not to sure how much skiing actually got done!! I did hear rumours of a rescue being attempted as kezzy was talking one minute, gone the next, drunkedly tumbled down the side of a ravine and began the first stages of hypothermia, sleeping in the snow!! We are oh so grateful for our Guardian angels and their unwaivering dedication, especially in our wayward years!!
My horrors (humiliation) of falling off the pommel lift on the 'baby slope' at mt. Buffalo and having ten people crash into me cos I couldn't stand up, all came flooding back!! Never have the snow and I agreed since.
We also wandered a little ways to Bombala, to see if we could spot a platypus...apparently they are very early risers and the fog made it a tad difficult- however it was still fun listening for a break in the waters and scouring the surface for a glimpse of these amazing creatures. Just as exciting as searching for tadpoles in a pond as a kid. Did you know they lay eggs and can hold their breathe for 15mins! They are practically blind and deaf, but their electro charged bill is a brilliant sensor and bug sniffer-outer!
It's now time to pack and prepare for the 12hr drive to armidale in time to spend Easter Saturday learning from AJ and Mary and have a crack at the karaoke machine- facing fear of singing in public here we come!!!
