So yesterday I didn't really explain how beautiful the Swiss alps are, and to be honest I don't even know if I can because pictures just don't do it justice. But this morning I wake up and see from my window massive mountains, with snow caps and it was the most beautiful clear day, I was excited for our hike!
After we got ready, and packed out lunches we were off on our 5-6hr hike through the mountains. The first half of the hike was very steep and I was cursing all the pasta I had in itally. We arrived at a waterfall just in the rock and it was amazing! We then continued on through a more wooded area and had a brief snack/acclimatizing break before continuing on. Once out of the steep wooded are we were on more just hilly open terrain where it was beautiful green and there were lots of cows that we had to walk right by to follow the trail. Every cow had a cow bell it made for cool music on that portion of our hike. We then arrived at a small town where we had a beer and then had a picnic in the field before starting on our decent. If you think going up hill is hard you should try steep downhill with sliding gravel. It was tough, bit of course the views were completely out of this world so it was an amazing day! Possibly one of my favourites! Also it was funny because all the hard core hikers we passes had joking poles to help with the terrain, but we just had our martens grit and determination to get through it, however that don't stop karlee from falling twice, me slipping into a mud pool up to my ankles, or marissa from stepping in a big cow patty!
When we got home we went for a swim and hot tub in the next town over. It was a 40min up hill walk, on top of the hike we did that day so it was tough but karlee and I did it and marissa met us at the top opting for the gondola instead. We then made a dinner and karlee and I went down for a short nap before the night activities, however I never woke up from my nap! My body was so tired and traveling you grow a real sleep debt, so I slept for about 12hrs straight and missed out on the fun with the Aussies and the other students in the hostel.
Fun fact: the national holiday in Switzerland is Swiss day, it takes place on August 1st
