We got up and had a traditional portugeas/ European breakfast of bread and cheese. We were so lucky to have Catarina and her family take us in. They had all different types of bread from around Portugal and multiple varieties of cheese for us to try.
We then walked around almada (the town Catarina lives in) and we had the most beautiful view of Lisbon from across the river. After we took a ferry to Lisbon and she walked us all around the city. We saw baixa, alfama, campo pequeno, Marques de pombal, and avenida de pombal. We also went to castelo de st. Jorge and walked around and explored. Then we went to get ginjinha, a traditional drink for the area. It had cherries fermented with sugar and water, it was rather strong but pretty good to sip on. We also got our first gelato of the trip from santini's and boy was it good!
We came home and had dinner of pasta and salmon, by the time we finished it was around 11:30 and I was a little worried because we were supposed to be going out that night and were not even ready. By 1:30 everyone was showered and dressed but we were dead sober, which was weird for me because normally by 1:30 I'm leaving the bar to go home. So at 1:30 we got in a cab and went to bairro alto, a street we visited earlier with shops. Now it had bars ( little holes in the wall just to buy booze) and everyone just stood and drank on the street. It was like one massive pre drink, and we met some of catarina's friends. By 3:30 we were ready to hit the club to dance.
We went to lux a really amazing club (I can't believe of all nights I forgot my camera!). As we were in line for the club this group of English men told us that they were told there would be a 250 euro cover for them and asked if thy could come in with us but Catarina told them sorry but no. She explained to us that often clubs will tell people ridiculously high covers if they don't want them in the club.
It cost us 12 euros to get in and with that we for 12 euros in tickets to spend at the club (so around 3 drinks). The club had a techno dance bar on the bottem floor, a regular pop type music on the main floor and a rooftop patio with big couches and a beautiful view. It was funny dancing there because for all of you who have seen me dance on a good night know there are limbs flailing all over the place but in Portugal their arms are down and they just move with their hips and legs, it took some getting used to.
At around 5 we went up to the patio and saw the sun rise and then just drank and danced until around 7am when we finally cabbed it home and went to bed. It is by far the latest I have ever stayed up to party.
Fun fact: The world expo was held in 1998 and the original site was all slums but the city moved all those people to a differed area so they could completely renovate the area an make beautiful for all the visitors they were anticipating.
