We were at the airport at 710 to pick kaylena and met caterina, kaylena's old roommate who we would be staying with for our time in Lisbon.
After picking her up at the airport we went back to Caterina's place to pick up her brother and her friend, who was from chilli to go to the beach. It was supposed to be not a very nice day but her friend really wanted to go to the beach and she said she bring the sun so on we went. We went to a local beach about 15/20 minutes away and it was so beautiful. For the first hour or so it was overcast but then the sun came out and it was such a beautiful day! I went swimming in the ocean, and mariassa went in part way but everyone else thought it was too cold. By noon I had had too much sun, and there was no real shade so at that point I had to crawl into my sheet bag for the rest of the day to seek shelter. We then had lunch by the beach and then headed back to Caterina's to shower and change.
**(disclaimer I have no idea how to spell, pronounce any of the places we went, and sadly I can't even remember the names of half of them, just because when it's in such a foreign country it just goes right over my head, so u may sound completely stupid for the next few days for any of you who know about Portugal)
We then we to parque das nacoes. This is where the world expo was held in Lisbon. It was right on the water and had some pretty impressive architecture. Catarina showed us the mall there and it was designed to look like a boat, it was shaped with 2 sails on front and inside the roof had water running over it and port holes so it looked like you were under the sea!
Caterina then took us to Belem a part of Lisbon where we got the most amazing custard pastries ever (pasteis de Belem). After that we went back to her place and had dinner, we had these great potato codfish type things ( pasteis de bacalhau) bread and cheese and eggs with mushrooms. We then had all different pastries again from local bakeries, it was awesome. By the time we finished dinner it was 1am so we just went to bed.
Fun fact: in portugal you can't pick your own name.. It has to be from a saint or a cultural name. If someone who is not from Portugal lives in portugal and wants to name their child something against those rules they must get written permission from their government stating it's a real name, so there could never be a child named "apple" in portugal
