Planes Trains and Automobiles (more like motorbikes, planes, buses, ferries and cars!)
My flight back to La Paz was earlier than the boys' so I gave them all a sleepy cuddle goodbye and waited for my taxi. I was so excited when a motorbike taxi arrived! On I got and we went whizzing through the streets to the tiny airport. I was reminded of being on the back of my dad's bike many times as a child (the only time I've ever ridden pillion as I've never trusted anyone else). But I felt very safe with this guy. Although it was sunny, a dark cloud was forming and I wondered if the flight would even happen as many had been cancelled due to storms. (I found out 3 days later when I bumped into my boys again that mine was the last flight that day. Theirs was cancelled and were trapped for 2 more days!!)
It started pouring down but the flight went ahead regardless. Very bumpy and I thought I lost my stomach several times throughout. It was really exciting being so close to the pilots and being able to watch them. They seemed calm, therefore so was I.
Taxi back to my hostel in La Paz where I'd left some stuff and the first thing I asked was did they find that missing guy!!!??? YES I was told. But only yesterday. He'd been on a tour and forgot to tell anyone! Great. Idiot. But thank goodness for that! So He's not buried under a mansion somewhere! I got here pretty early so decided to see if I could head to Lake Titicaca today instead of stay another night in La Paz. There's a bus at 2 which gets me to Puno for 9pm. The lake is split between Bolivia and Peru. I want to go to Peru side first, mostly because the wifi is rubbish in the whole of Bolivia - only one service provider - and I need to get all these blogs on!
So I had brunch at the hostel, a GnT, and a jagar bomb (I know but these guys forced me into it. It was going spare. Rude not to right?), then set off to the bus station. Bus at 2pm as planned. A few hours in, the road ended and we had to cross the Lake. I've done this before but I was SO glad I'd spoken to a fellow traveller about this bit cos I wouldn't have had a clue otherwise! We all had to get off and buy a ticket for the ferry. In the mean time, the bus was driving onto what can only be described as logs and planks of wood all tied together! It seemed no more ferry-like than that to be honest! I wish I had my camera to capture how bizarre it was! 4 Men then pried it away with huge sticks! There must have been a motor on it somewhere as it got to the other side ok. I'm just glad I wasn't on the bus! Instead all the passengers got on a proper motor boat and sped across in 10 mins to the waiting bus, which we all clambered aboard to continue our journey!
At 9pm I found an internet cafe, found a suitable hostel, got there and crashed out!
ps I have no camera now and this blog requires me to add a photo so I will be placing random ones that have nothing to do with the blog content. x
