The Missed Bus!
My Bus was at 12 so I spent ALL morning sitting in the hostel putting the last few blogs and pics on, knowing I had loads of time. Half way through the morning a guy came in and said is it 9am or 10am? Neither I said, it's 930! We laughed about how his phone had managed to change time somehow and then thought nothing else of it. At 1130, I packed my stuff up to start making my way to the bus station 10 mins away. looked at the clock and it said a few mins to 1200! WHAT? I exclaimed. I was confused and panicking and wondered what was going on. I confirmed with all the other guests that indeed that was the time. I snarled at the guy who asked the time saying so I guess it was MY clock that was out Thanks for telling me! I ran out the door hoping the bus would be late. My shins started becoming very painful. Probably from all the extra booze I was carrying (although I, along with 2 others polished off the Baileys last night). I was fuming! I was livid! Mostly with the guy for not telling me when he found out what he knew. Really it was nobody's fault. I don't know why I was so angry. Just a huge frustration I guess, at the fact I was sitting there all morning and could have left any time!
Anyway I got there at quarter past and the bus was gone. The next bus was the next day. Wait he said smiling. I growled at him, what! (it certainly wasn't HIS fault). There is another bus station 14 blocks further down that way. They have a bus leaving at 2pm. Fine. Missed bus. More money. It was only £14 as well for goodness sake so even less reason to be so upset.
I walked the 14 blocks, huffing and puffing and sweating with all my gear on. By that time I was completely calm and back to my usual lovely self. I found a need for some sympathy so played charades with the guy telling him all about what had just happened. He said CONCENTRATE this time. I said don't worry I'm staying right here reading my book. MY BOOK!!!!!! where the hell is my book????? It's under my pillow in the hostel!!! It's a kindle. So not just a 50p job. It's my lifeline on all these journeys and has loads of books on it. Ok I said calmly. I took a deep breath, left my big bag and made my way back to the hostel, light as a feather this time! Clearly it's not my day. I made it back with only a few minutes to spare. Phew!
After the bus to Rio Gallegos, there was another bus to Puerto Madryn at 2000, getting in at 1300 the next day. So except from an hour and a half, that was 23 hours journey! Not too bad to be honest. I managed to get one leg under a seat arm, and the other over with not too much discomfort so was able to change positions from just on my back.
Wow it's nice and warm here! No I mean it. For the 1st time it's been lovely to sit outside. Peru was hot but freezing in the shade. The jungle was hot but I got eaten alive. Everywhere else has just been simply cold. This is just fine! So I got to my hostel, booked the whale watching, and bought some chicken and, wait for it, vegetables! Then showered and had a fab healthy meal for a change and an early night.
