El Calafate
Porito Moreno Glacier. The next big box ticker!
The 20 hour bus ride to El Calafate was at 5pm last night. I was told it's a bed bus. Like the one I've had before. Completely flat. But it was not. And the next 20 hours were horrible. I'm stiff and sore all over. My hostel is a campsite. I had to go OUTSIDE in the freezing cold to the shower block, a typical campsite shower block, cold and dirty, for a shower. My room that I'm sharing with 3 others, (I'm on a top bunk again damn it!!) has an actual heater in it though. The 1st I've seen my whole trip!
I'm here because this is where the bus will collect me in the morning to take me to the Porito Moreno Glacier.
"The Perito Moreno Glacier is one of only three Patagonian glaciers that is growing. The reason remains debated by glaciologists. The Perito Moreno Glacier is 5 km (3 mi) wide, with an average height of 74 m (240 ft) above the surface of the water of Argentino Lake, in Argentina. It has a total ice depth of 170 m (558 ft)"
I'm so excited! I've booked an all day tour. One which not only takes me by boat right up close but I will actually be WALKING ACROSS IT with crampons!! I made another purchase today in preparation for tomorrow. A scarf!! I can't wait! Tomorrow I will be wearing (almost) ALL my clothes. I'm pretty sure I'll be toasty hot on this huge glacier! :) Right. Need to go buy my packed lunch for tomorrow. And charge my camera!!
