I never thought that the unexpected companion may lead us to take an unplanned trip to unknown destinations. On board in a train heading eastern bus station when my friend Ness who come along with me received a random call that reroutes our way. We went straight to Hualampung Station instead, to catch up with a friend - Pinky who phoned us. It's always said that blessed are the curios for they will have adventures. And so, it begins when we decided to take the train that will leave ASAP where ever it takes us. Lao Tzu once said that: "A good traveler has no fixed plans and is not intent on arriving". Here we go! As usual, booking on the last minute often gives a non-designated ticket. We don't mind it anyway, what matter is that we can get to somewhere - UNKNOWN...
Train to Hua Hin
The perk of having no seat is that you can own the hallway. Just throw your hands up and enjoy the ride! - be it sitting on the stairway/door/floor beside the leaking toilet and smelly garbage, WDGAF.
Almost 9pm when we disembark at Hua Hin train station. This is it pancit! Walking on the streets, as if, we know where to go either a place to stay. We hound in a distant but took us a bit longer bargaining for the cheapest accommodation as we indulge ourselves for a thousand bath challenge. Sometimes it will drive you nuts being on the streets but it's good to go with the flow once in a while and leave room for spontaneity and surprises. Usually, the experiences that are most meaningful are those that you don't plan for. Interacting with locals and foreigners, making new friends, or even getting lost. Finally, we got the best price at TAPS Hotel; we checked in, had our dinner at the hotel lobby with our street foods then, explore the walking street. We even get buzzed that night without invading any of the bars. How we managed? Well, a 7/11 in front of the expensive bars serves a venue for the bashed. A swap over took place - we got a free music with foreign viewers and they've got live Step Up showdown.
Around 1am, the police came over and so they need to shutdown. We went back to our hostel and had a good night squeezed into a queen sized bed. As we get our ass up, the same question we kept asking each other "where are we going next?" LMAO - over a cup of coffee - to "unknown"! We'll just seized each day and make the most out of every circumstances. There are no plans, no destinations, or no expectations. "Remember that happiness is a way of travel - not a destination." - Roy M. Goodman.
On our way to nowhere, we've met a thai guy named PING. He's on his way to Pranburi (his hometown) where his mom is waiting for him. He helped us a lot to figure out where we should go and suggested secluded beaches on his hometown. In one way or another, he was compelled as we kept insisting to go with him. We'd consider ourselves in fact a burden to his trip and to his mom upon reaching his place but who are we to refuse to the benevolent offer; we are just those spontaneous wanderers who strive to skip the frenzied city on New Year's Eve. The alleged dazzling seaboards were obscured to reach by foot and there's no way we can get a public transport hence, we can't set forth till Ken - an added travel buddy arrives. The horse-and-buggy coffee shop helped to while away the time. Fortunately, the owner speaks surprising English that convince our snooping thought towards the place we're going. Sometimes it feels freer speaking to a stranger than to people we know. There and then, we started to depend on the kindness of strangers. What's more to held a vintage car!
Half past 2 when we hit the road conveyed by a coffin-dodger. He brought us to a sinister house given that the cost per night suits our budget. Creepy it may seem but we're settled in a place together in two single beds with boon coffee thus, sounds good enough! Recharge for a moment and roam around afterwards to look for our brunch (breakfast + lunch). We found a stall of fried chicken in front of the slam market. DIY dining area - the advantage of being (b/g) scouts. We walked alongside the beach and without a doubt it is really charming and peaceful. The white sand beach scenery and turquoise sea is amazing. It's not exactly renowned for raucous nightlife and it's off the beaten track that one can surely enjoy the private atmosphere. After that, we thumb a lift to wander the neck of the woods. Hurray! We found the spot for New Year's Eve - right time to get off. Just then, the serenity of the place was intruded by lonesome drifters who had come from parts unknown. As we enjoy the Al Fresco dining with Johnnie Walker, we can see some foreigners and the locals gathered around us. Perfect time to hit the floor! They watched us whip and the latter break their silence in trying hard to speak English until they finally blew up when Ness speaks Thai language with them. Before we get drunk, we're able to launch our Kongming lantern to welcome 2018 and say goodbye 2017. T'was simply the best closing and opening remarks I ever had since I'm away from home. We kicked off 2018 in 3 rounds; round 1 "whisky", round 2 "brandy" and round 3 with another "brandy" alas in round 4 we're knocked down. I thought alcohol slows the pace of communication between neurotransmitters in the brain but Pinky seems to be the witty souse trying to beseech transport, Ken upholds Adonis figure as he drown into the booze and Ness linger in the middle-of-the-road to secure our belongings and insure that we could all get back to the lodge beyond the less extreme end of the spectrum. We arrive safely in a new dawn that only the moon witnessed and discerned our night's hush-hush. Just when I grasp someone on my thought - wham!- my eyes suddenly open… wooooooah! It's time to start something! It's ridiculously RUNderful life! If no one thinks you can then you have to - JUST DO IT! Trust the magic of beginning… I did start unknowingly and finished the unforgettable 2 hours run along the beach whilst enjoying the first glimpse of the dawn.
The Ocean is so magnificent that plays the grand music that no one could resist not to dance with the waves. The beach is calling … We can't just smell the sea and feel the sky, we must steeped in the jiffy. Undeniably, the world finest wilderness lies beneath the waves.
The thrill of coming home has never changed. Now, we are in no doubt of our destination - HOME!
