Well on last leg of kiwi adventure now in Auckland! Can't believe it's all gone so quickly!!
Arrived in Auckland as the sun was shining on the Sky Tower as we drove into the city! So after getting off the naked bus hopped on another one to K Road where hostel is. Auckland almost felt like stepping into another country compared to the quaintness of the Bay of Islands! Got a bit lost here too and walked past hostel! haha in my defense it wasn't really signed posted or advertised and the one sign that was there had a group of people hiding it! Did eventually get inside however and checked in!
After some lunch decided to visit the Auckland Museum located at the Auckland Domain, and again got lost trying to locate it haha. Lesson learnt on Friday was that when reading a map and I think I should be going right usually means the correct direction is left! Did eventully find it through more luck than anything else! haha. Museum was really cool though with loads of Maori artefacts as well as the impact numerous wars have had on NZ's armed services and what life in the past was like in Auckland. Also had a volcanoe simulator too which was really good fun! After the museum made my way back down to hostel (didn't get lost this time haha) and decided to make some tea before spending the night chatting to people in hostel as well as watching tv haha.
On Saturday the sun unfortunately wasn't shining but instead had torrential rain accompained by thunder and lightening so that put paid to any plans for the morning, so instead decided to brush up on some Spanish! The rain did eventually clear and I then ventured out into Auckland's CBD. Sadly Auckland hasn't thrilled me like other cities it's all just a bit boring :-( for a city there isn't much to distinguish it other than the huge Sky Tower but even at times it can be hidden by the other generic city buildings. So after following the walking tour around the "highlights" of the city made my way back to hostel. On route did see some drama however, a fire in a church that was being tackled by firefighters as I walked past! That was about as exciting as Auckland has gotten really! Spent Saturday night again lounging about hostel swapping travel stories and watching the FA Cup final.
Woke up and had a lazy morning waitin on Carmel flying in from Wellington before heading for good old pub lunch and then down part of Queen Street before coming back to get ourselves sorted for Santiago. So hostel is all booked now for two nights just now and know how we are getting from airport to centre! All that's left now is the 11 hour flight and it's "hola" Chile!!!
So all that's really left to say is adios NZ it's been Sweet As....
