Today's excursion is to Canyonlands National Park. There are a couple of hikes that we are interested in doing here. The first is easy and the must see in Canyonlands and that's to Mesa Arch. It's quite a large arch and because it's easily accessible, there were a lot of people there. It was difficult to get a photo without people in it. There was a beautiful, expansive view of the canyon through the arch. It looks like this canyon is as large as the Grand Canyon! We certainly found it more interesting than the Grand Canyon. We waited at least 1/2 hour for this guy to move out of the arch so us and everyone waiting could get a photo without him in it. Finally, we asked it he would move over til we got a photo. He thought we wanted a photo of him and got himself into a nice pose, haha. No! Keep moving over, a little more, no, a little more, eventually he figured it out.
From there, we decided to drive to Green River, the end of the viewpoints, and look at that first and have lunch, instead of hiking at high noon. Such a vast vista from there! It looks like a canyon in the canyon. You really have to look to see the Green River, it's so far away.
Stopped at a few more viewpoints and then the short hike to Upheaval Dome overlook. That is an unexplained crater in the canyon. The ground was an interesting green and yellow color. Hat was what we wanted to see in Canyonlands. The temperature today is 35 C.
After cleaning up, we went to browse Main Street here and then went for a sushi dinner.
