We both had a ****** sleep last night. Must eat earlier tonight and get some exercise. Shouldn't be hard in Yellowstone. Definitely a different drive today-the road is quite windy and still smokey from the forest fires. I am definitely noticing all the colours of the rocks alongside the road, everything from green, purple, orange, black, grey, yellow. Just missing blue. Sometimes they are in square or rectangular blocks, sometimes very rough and craggy. Maybe we need a truck....square slabs of rock on one side of the road and a flat vista on the other side, an interesting contrast. Spotted this white church off the side of the road and had to pull over for a closer look. It was built in 1880-1881 by the Boulder pioneers. Too bad it was fenced off. Some interesting looking headstones there as well. I'm sure it has seen many cycles of joy and sadness. Stopped to stretch our legs in a cute little western themed town called Ennis. They had a lot of tastefully done western decor for your home. Saw some things that Susan would love. A couple of my faves were a moose made from a tree stump or branch maybe. It was completely covered in that papery type bark and was well done. The other was a bench that was iron and wood and was freestanding, but made to look like the seat from an old buggy. The framework was black iron and the seat and backrest were wood. The feet were horseshoes. Temperature in the car at 1:30 is reading 30. Got the top down on the convertible. Another interesting site. Naked trees sticking out of Earthquake Lake. They look like the color of dry bones. In Aug of 1959, there was a 7.5 magnitude earthquake that caused a massive landslide across the Madison River. By dawn the following morning, a new lake formed and engulfed the nearby campsite. The water rose for the next 3 weeks at the rate of 9 feet per day. This new lake was now 5 miles long and 190 feet deep at the deepest part.
