Our Global Gallivants
We spent the last couple days with Marcus and family. Even though we were in San Francisco yesterday, we didn't have enough time to go to the Golden Gate Bridge. Too bad, because it was eventually a beautiful, sunny day. We had an interesting day with Marcus, though. I was looking forward to Japantown, so we made that our first stop. We saw a lot of cool things in the shops there and purchased a couple of things. From there we made a 5 minute drive to Chinatown. Ate lunch in a noodle joint there, it was ok. We walked around Chinatown and of course went on the hunt for an egg tart. I think Chinese bakeries are becoming a thing of the past. The bakery Marcus usually goes to was closed and we never did find an egg tart! I was surprised to learn that San Francisco is a smaller city than Calgary! Only about 860,000 people. We made it back to San Jose in time to pick up Aaron and Meghan from school. We all went for Chinese food for dinner and then to our hotel so the kids could go for a swim. Today we're driving to Eureka, CA and the highway goes directly through San Francisco and lo and behold, the sky is clear again! I guess we're meant to get a photo of the bridge. Mission accomplished! Leaving San Francisco and heading north and west toward the coast takes us through the Napa Valley and then the redwood forest. The valley is still very dry and you could see and smell smoke in the distance. It's an amazing thing to see trees that are so big and old. Took some photos there and will spend the night in Eureka, CA. The temp reading in the car went from 35 in San Jose to 15.5 in Eureka. They tell us that there was a light rain here last night, and it was misty here when we arrived.
