After a harrowing long travel period we arrived in Frankfurt very excited to finally be here, we decided to catch a taxi to the hotel and not fight with the train network this early in the morning so after arriving surprisingly safely after the crazy cab ride to our hotel it was a pleasant surprise that our room was ready to go into at 8am that was a huge yay as we really wanted to shower and change our clothes we had been in for 24 hours. We were eager to hit the streets with the thought if we stopped for even a minute we wouldn't get going again, so we headed out onto the chilly streets of Frankfurt city with a map in hand and no direction lol. I asked a lovely young German girl for directions and after explaining to us that we would need to catch a train into the city as it was too far to possibly walk, after some gentle coaxing we got her to define how far it was and she said 30 minutes to walk, we both (Trent and I) laughed and said that's not far we have all day that's ok we can walk and explore and that's what we did for the next 5-6 hours. We followed the main river line into the city and were amazed at how pretty the city is, we visited our first Cathedral of St Bartholomew which was built in 680 AD and added to over the centuries it was awe inspiring and made me wish I was slightly religious, you get a better understanding of how and why people are so faithful to their chosen religion when you see the grandeur of places of worship though its also daunting to think of the wealth of the religions to build such grand places of worship. We then took a general walk around the city and were blown away by the fairy tale like architecture of the buildings, it just didn't feel real to be here amongst it all. We stopped and had our first wurst on a roll and Trent had his first pils beer, only cost us $8.50 for two wurst on a roll each, a pretzel that we shared and the beer, ridiculous cheap. We also had a small cone of candied nuts and a piece of cake both shared between us but we stuck to well under our budget for our first day yay. We trudged back to the hotel with a lack of pep with sore backs and feet after not much sleep to have a little rest before heading back out but fell asleep and woke up 9 hours later ready to party whoops. Great first day, could get used to this holiday thing :)

Melanie I nearly went blind reading this it's black writing on a charcoal background is there any way you can make it less painful to read? Awesome that you just went exploring and kept under your budget!!
