Oregon at last! Arrived Wednesday and came up the coast only so far. We kept getting fascinated by all the views. They were everywhere! "Stop, pullover!" was my common cry and it seemed to be every other twist in the road. We stopped at Bullard's Beach State Park and could hear the ocean like it was just outside our tent. Probably about 1/4 mile as the crow flies. But it was so nice and cozy. Had my Aldi $10 heater cycling on and off through the night and the heating pad going pretty much all night. But we were some snug bugs! We packed up and headed up again, stopping at the KOA in Newport. Small site and didn't catch our fancy so we headed up to Lincoln City. But it seems like the whole coast of Oregon is either National or State Park. Lookouts every couple of miles and a state-maintained restroom as well. Oh, and Oregon has a law that you can't pump your own gas! That's right, every station is full service. But I like it. It seems like a good way to keep this natural wonderland in the state it was meant to be. Convenience? Not a lot of it. But I'd be willing to trade it for what they've got any day. Coos County Forest, Oregon Dunes NR, Honeyman State Park that had that massive sand dune we climbed. There was a historic bridge in Suislaw NF as well as Cape Perpetua and Cape Creek. There were all kinds of lakes or rivers nestled in alongside of the ocean. I guess the rivers coming in were what made what they called "waysides". We saw Smelt Sands State Park, Tilliam Beach with Beachside State Park, Port of Alsiea, Beavercreek and Ona Beach, South Beach SP, Yaquina Head, Moolack Beach and Lake Foulweather. None of these will probably mean anything to me next week, but I know I'll remember the general impression. Spectacular! Oh yeah, I'm not sure if it started in northern California or Oregon but they have Tsunami Hazard Zone road signs! We're going to spend a second night here in Otis in order to catch up on laundry and take a little breather.

Bea I don't know if you're still in touch with the Myrick girls, but I just saw in the paper that their mother Rita died on May 2nd. 86 years old.
