This will probably be our longest day driving of the entire trip. We were both a little anxious to get through both Oklahoma and the Texas panhandle. And by the time we did, New Mexico looked good! We ran somewhat parallel to Route 66 most of the way. Oklahoma boasted signs along the way "Home of Carrie Underwood" and the town that had the Roger Miller Museum had us bursting into our off-key rendition of "King of the Road". But the terrain turned scrappy and the sky got incredibly bigger as the trees disappeared. I was also into "Oklahoma!" for a bit, at least the part about the wind whipping down the plain! The speed limit had gone up to 75 mph at just about the same time we had to slow down because of fighting the wind gusts. Texas had us stopping at the Peace Memorial and we drove by but didn't get to stop at the Cadillac Ranch. Once we crossed into New Mexico we saw a dramatic change in scenery. The wide open spaces got wider, and then we started to see the flat-topped mountains, the rocks and the crevices in the earth. There were times when we couldn't see a house it what seemed to be a 100 mile radius of where we were on the highway. We're in Albuquerque for the night. I think we're about 6 hours from the southern rim of the grand canyon where we're hoping to find a campsite for a couple of nights when we get there tomorrow.

Phyllis What's the Cadillac Ranch?
bea Cool! I have just gotten back online in my new apartment. Have a lot of catching up to do on your blog. Sounds like you're having a good time though.
