Here we are barreling through the desert, heading into the REAL Death Valley. We just passed Creech AFB and Jeff says we are on the edge of Area 51.
I wasn't intending on writing anything while we were in Vegas, but it is a whole week and we've had a memorable time. Our trip in was very nice as we had never driven into Vegas from that direction. We passed the Hoover Dam and Lake Meade which had stunningly blue water. We went through Henderson where Renee used to live and where we were actually thinking of buying a second home at one time. The excitement of coming into Vegas is a one of a kind thrill and we could feel in swelling up as the strip came into view when we turned the corner on the boulder highway coming into town. We had reservations for 4 nights at Harrahs, 2 of which were free except for the resort fee. And then today we checked into Treasure Island for 3 nights. We leave Wednesday Morning. We've had a good time thus far, especially in the dining arena! Not a good admission from somebody that is supposed to be getting her weight down for a June 20th wedding! I could gush all day about the dinner we had at The Mix which was on the 64th floor of the Delano Mandelay Bay. We had drinks followed by dinner followed by drinks. The sunset was spoiled by the cloud cover but when the strip lit up after that invisible sunset, we had quite a treat. The restaurant was very chic in my opinion, with a huge chandelier of white balls that went from the tall ceilings almost to the ground. That and the white leather tables and booths, it looked very nice. Apparently I don't know much because they are scheduled to close for 4 months starting in June to remodel! The food was easily the best I've ever had and that's a super compliment considering who I'm married to! But even the master chef and grade A food critic found his diver scallops with cauliflower puree and florets to be perfection. And he said the lobster in my Maine Lobster "Au Curry" with coconut basmati rice was very tender and succulent. We had a side of creamed spinach which was also great. Desert was 3 donuts, maple syrup, yogurt ice cream and fresh berry compote. I know I'm going into great detail about a meal but I want to remember every little detail! We had chicken fried lobster at Binions, lobster rolls over at some place in Planet Hollywood, not to mention the buffet at Mandelay Bay. Tonight we were entertained with what was easily the best show I've seen in Vegas. Jubilee! Talent everywhere. Singing, dancing, and the costumes! I won a little on blackjack and then sat down at the bar to play a poker machine and get a free beer. Won $80 there! Finally having a little luck but still not really in much of a gambling mode. Looking forward to spending some time by the pool, doing a little shopping and more eating!
Well that's not exactly how it happened. Pool? yup Shopping? A bit Eating? Of course. Dinner at Hugo's Cellar which is an old favorite. And we did go completely crazy and stop in at Mermaid"s on the way out of town to get our deep fried twinkie! Just bad all over. Glad we stopped, tho, played a little BJ and a couple rounds of Craps and practically recouped my losses! :) Fun Time.
