We have arrived (yesterday) in Lawn Hill NP. Lawn Hill is a place that we have been looking forward to visiting for months! It certainly is like an oasis rising out of the desert. The road here was dusty and with its fair share of corrugations. We had lunch at Gregory River with beautiful clear cascading water- and of course keeping an eye out for crocs, something I am sure will be a daily occurrence for the next few weeks. Lawn Hill is absolutely beautiful. The creek is surrounded by brilliant red sandstone cliffs. The water is crystal clear and full of so many fish (archer fish, grunters and garfish plus turtles) that you can see from the surface.
We have been enjoying swimming in the creek (only fresh water crocs here- but not seen one yet) and went for a walk today thru the upper gorge. There is several waterfalls formed from the tufa deposits. The water is a rich turquoise due to the amount of minerals in the water. It is nice to just sit and relax and enjoy some days without travelling. It was about 32C today - certainly not missing the Orange weather! We have two more nights here and plan to hire a couple of canoes tomorrow to explore the gorge on the water.
