Bangalore was a flying visit. Arriving on the 2pm train and leaving on the 10pm night train for Hampi, we had 6 hours to kill. Bangalore is a big big traffic congested city with history dotted around the place. We made our day about restaurants, bars and shops. Booked onto the second class AC waiting list for the night train out of town we kept our fingers and toes crossed for a smidgen of room for us to sleep the night away.
First stop infinitea, a tea shop with over 100 teas from here, there and everywhere. We tried the Darjeeling frost pick and the orange and chocolate. Next stop the Biere Club, apparently India's only micro brewery, although we heard about another one the very next day. A taster rack each (bogof) and on our way. Bangalore is famous for steak strangely enough so we headed to a steak house only to find it closed. We stood in the evening storm wondering what to do. McDonalds!!
Leaving McDos we were confronted with the challenge of getting back to the station, not realising that trying to flag down a rickshaw at rush hour was like catching a fish in the dessert. This must have been the only time the dreaded words 'tuktuk sir' would have been replied with 'yes please!!' Thousands of rickshaws, but all occupied, we jumped on a bus in the general direction and walked from there. At 7pm we finally arrived back at the station to find out the verdict of our waiting list tickets for the train. No such luck but an extremely lovely and helpful Indian lady managed to find another train with sleeper class and after getting 1500rps refunded we boarded the train with smiles on our faces. We were under budget for the day again!!! Whooppp!
Goodbye Bangalore mass traffic madness!
Love Jo and Bryn
