Just like Hampi, we caught the 'no more travelling bug' once we arrived and were settled at Palolem beach. Bryn and Jo's number 1 tip for Goa - don't go when we went. The reason for this: because that's when 657 billion Indians go. And in great numbers Indians are a pain in the arse! 657 bn Indians means zero rooms, zero seats in restaurants, and zero peace at the beach. It also means no planes, no trains and a big fat headache! Alas, after a weekend of 657 bn indians, Eid and ghandi day were over and Goa at last became peaceful the way we had imagined.
Goa had a wonderful routine for us two, which consisted of lie ins, German bakery breakfasts, beach time, puppy time, shower time and beer time. More about the puppy... Sophie became Cybil and Cybil was all skin and bone. After seeing this poorly little puppy pant breathlessly past us on the beach we felt sick with sadness and had to help. Feeding and watering him 3 times a day and seeing him gobble up his pedigree chum made us feel warm and fuzzy.
Other highlights of the week included mint lemonade slushies, kayaking at sunset, wrestling matches in the shallows, photo walk a-la-lightening storm, transforming our milky white bodies to goan sea brown, great British bake off semi final and a nice Skype date home!
We started with grimey dusty feet and left 5 day later with perfectly clean toe nails...a travelling dream.
Train derailments meant train delays and train delays meant 13 hours on a platform floor among the masses of Indians, cockroaches, rats and stray dogs. Luckily towards morning we met a couple of friendly Polaks to raise our spirits with. Mateusz and Daria were from Lodz (pron. Wuj) who taught us the word Huj, which means come, as did the train at 9am! 17 gruelling hours later we arrived in Mumbai, but that's a different story...
Possible new cheapest travel day... £14.50!
