Jambo!!
These blogs are coming too you thick and fast now!! I'm trying to make the most of my last 7 days. I thinks it's safe to say that the thought of leaving Arusha is making me slip into depression!!! I can't comprehend leaving all these amazing people behind. Freddie has spent the past few days trying to convince me to cancel mombassa and hang out here for an extra two weeks!! If I didn't have Michaela to consider I think I would have done in a flash. Michaela has predicted my future for me, she thinks that in 5 years time I will be living in Arusha and Freddie, Brian, Devis and everybody else will be great friends of mine. Who knows her prediction might come true!!
Yesterday a few of us crammed ourselves into a jeep and went for a day trip to a massai village. The culture that massai tribal people have to follow is so different to anything I have ever heard of, it is safe to say that it's best to be a massai man than it is a massai women. Having said that being circumcised without pain relief and not being allowed to show any signs if pain certainly sounds soft. Apparently this is the process that sorts to warriors from the wimps.
When we got there we got to look around one of the Maasai homes, they resemble a mud hut, with a straw roof. Very basic and very dark, I managed to hit my head on a clay section on my way out, it hurt!!!! The flies inside are rediculas, I think part of the clay is mixed with cow dung so maybe that is how they are attracted. After looking at the house it was time for the big goat sacrifice. One of the lads I have met out here (Zu) has always wanted to kill an animal (very sadistic if you ask me) but today he got the chance, he suffocated the goat and then helped in the process of skinning and dissecting the goat. Goat blood is a speciality of the massai tribe, along with raw kidneys. We were offered the chance of eating and drinking these, I declined of course!! However Anthony got stuck in there had everything!! I have some very funny pictures of him pulling an extremely funny face!!
The rest of the afternoon was spends dancing and singing with the warriors and the mamas at a massai disco, then later on we sat under a tree making bracelets and thinks with the children and the mamas.
I had done so well up until now my burning on my trip, but today the heat was so bad that I now have a proper t shirt burn pattern!! It does not look good!!
Lewis our guide, was amazing!! He too is Maasai but after he left the village to go to school he now lives in Arusha as a your guide.
Of course Thursday night is obligatory via via night. I can honestly say was one of the best, even through Anthony was climbing the mountain of god the following morning, he still came out had one to many conyagis and rocked the dance floor........ Legendary. 4.30am walking through the front door and up at 7!! Always a good move, ha ha!!! I of course decided against mountain of god, apparently it's harder than kili- I think you will find me by the pool instead!!
Off the paradiso orphanage now... At last!!!
