Habari!!!!
So I have slightly longer to write this blog as I am led by the pool writing it using wifi. The weather has changed her so much, monsoon rain in the morning and then it warms up after lunch. The food is amazing, it feels so good to be able to eat again, on antibitics, turned out to be a bacterial infection!!!
Back to work and spent more time at levelosi hospital. The team here are amazing, everyone gets stuck in together. For example when the doctor had finished ward round he then proceeded to hammer some nails into the wall so that curtains and mosquito nets could be hung. Nursing is completely different here, there is one doctor in particular who says "that's the price of poverty" every time a patient dies. It must be so frustrating knowing that where the mzungus come from more facilities are available to save lives. It doesn't seem fair somehow.
Africa has power cuts everyday which makes things hard for the hospital. There is only one oxygen cylinder and the oxygen needs to pass through a concentrator before it is given. There has been two cases now where children have died because they needed oxygen during a power cut.
Back home the care is very family orientated, parents are always kept updated and are always provided with support when they need it. In Tanzania it is very different, although the women of Africa are very strong natured when it comes to their child being unwell they are often led sobbing on the side lines. The doctors and nurses don't usually comfort or explain things to them, and as much as I would love to my Swahili is not the best so the best a can do is provide a hug when it matters.
The house went to the circus last night, including witness, Freddie, brian, emannuel and innocent the day guard. Were one big family here and even after only two weeks it's going to be so hard to leave, I've made friends that I know will last a lifetime.
Tomorrow we are going to Tenguru waterfalls and coffee plantation, should be a brilliant day, be nice to get out and see some of the amazing views.
Freddie and Brian has also given us another chance of a lifetime, to go to a rural massai village for a couple of days and teach the children and mums about HIV and Malaria. I hope it manages to get sorted before its time to leave, it really would be so rewarding to make these people more away on how to prevent these horrible deseases.
Orphanage next week!!!
