Jambo.
Zanzibar has been my home for the past three days, the weather is a thousand times better than Arusha, In fact i would go as far as saying that it is a little too hot for me at some points in the day (me being a ginge and all!!) It has been an emotional weekend to say the least and although I have enjoyed a nice break away from the city, I am looking forward to getting back to the house.
Yet again pick up was roughly about 3 hours afgter I got in from ViaVia. Packing with a hangover really does not work for me!! I need to learn this about myself. I forgot a towel, a book, a guidebook, my ipod, my shampoo!!! the list is endless!! The other girls forgot their yellow fever certificates so at one point it looked like i was pasrtying in zanzibar on my own!!!
STONE TOWN
We arrived in stone town on Friday morning, the weather was outrageous. I literally felt like i was melting. Stone town is the capital of Zanzibar and is very old school, I felt like i had stepped back 100 years if not more, especially with their strict muslim culture. Stone town is litereally made up of lots of tiny alleyways and tall buildings, there are no road names and the free map that you get really is not very useful!! SatNorma would not work well here at all!! (sorry mum). Getting lost in these long streets in the blistering heat looking for somewhere to eat really is not my idea of fun. We stumbled accross a little cafe on the promenade and decided to take a gamble with the food....... we all ordred the cheese and vegetable sandwhich (I know what your thinking-we figured maybe it was tomato). Anways when it arrived it was literally bread, peppers and mayo!! not a bit of cheese in sight. It was hilarious!!
We visited the old slave market whilst we was there, decided that we should do soemthing cultural whilst we were in the capital, was really interesting to see and the guide that we hired was amazing, he really knew his stuff and his English was better than mine!!!
KENDWA
After leaving stone town the next morning we too a taxi the the far north point of the island called Kendwa. The beaches here are amazing, crisp white sand and terquiose water, its paradise. The hotel is amazing but basic, to keep cost down we decided to stay in a dorm. There was only one other guy in our room and the rest of the beds were empty so it worked out fine although we didnt really get to meet as many people as we wanted too. The beach party on the saturday night was good, but not the best. At about 3.30am they started playing really chilled out reggae songs, It sent me to sleep almost!! However finishing of the night with a touch of skinny dipping in the sea was brilliant- extremely funny!!! Sunday we spent on the beach and did a touch of snorkelling, It was beautiful sailing out the see in a rickity old wooden boat (well until it broke down), and the fish were just beautiful. I felt like i was one of them, yes a felt like a fish!!
Just awaiting pick up for our flight back to reality now. I cant wait to get back and see everyone, there is 5 new house mates when we get back be nice to meet them. Off to the orphanage tomorrow after work with Anthony and Zu so hopefull will get some good pictures.
until the next time,

Hayley Hi Nix, Just had a mammoth blog reading session,I am now hooked and can't wait for your next installment... Sounds like you are having an amazing time, I can't believe the amount you are doing and seeing- both good and bad. Take care lovely, see you soon xxxx
Megan So I've been home just over a day and needed a Nicola fix... Sounds like the Zanzibar trip was a success - I can't believe they even asked for the yellow fever certificates, they didn't even want to look at our passports when we got there! Hope the boat breakdown was a laughable adventure and nothing stressful. I miss you guys like crazy already. Mad love from Canada.
