Day 358, 27 June 2013. Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. You know you're having a lazy day when the maid knocks on the door at 11.30 am and you're still in your PJs. What can I say, it was a very dark room and watching Agatha Christie's Poirot series in bed seemed a perfectly sensible idea at the time. We eventually emerged from our hobbit hole and continued to explore Colonia, including the old pier and the waterfront - divine on a warm, sunny day. In fact it was the first day I didn't need a coat on since we arrived in Argentina 8 days ago! We checked out the handicrafts market (dire - and rubbish exchange rate on our Argie pesos). Did a lap around town and acquired a bottle of Uruguayan vino (really, not at all bad considering it was about US$4), a stick of bread, fresh quince jam and and some locally made cheese. A feast indeed for a fraction of the cost of dining in the local restaurants. We ventured out again later in the day to see the old town by night. It was incredibly quiet and peaceful after the hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires. There was an amazing sight over the river... a little like what we imagine the northern lights to look like. Massive red streaks across the sky even though the sun set hours before - check out the photos in today's album. Back to Argentina tomorrow then on to Chile. Wow. Time. She flies.
