Day 48, 21 August 2012, Grand Bazaar (closed), Hot shave experience for James, Juice bars and browsing - Finally leaving the hotel, we strolled to the local shops for a fresh grapefruit juice. Debated the benefits of buying a chinchilla fur coat (what can I say - it was an air conditioned shop....), walked to Turkey's famous Grand Bazaar to find it closed for the Eid festival. Bliss - able to take a photo of the main entrance without a soul in sight. Met a jeweller and seller of fine things from Aleppo, Syria who made it out with a small amount of stock and set up shop near the Bazaar. The rest of his stock, belongings and some family are trapped in Syria. It's a sad old world. Moved slowly today. 12 noon was Cat of the Day. Quite possibly the cleverest moggie to date - a wee tabby cat sat on the pavement outside a kebab shop and hoovered up the chicken scraps being shaved off the roasting spit. We popped into a salon and investigated getting my hair done - but "lady coiffeur holiday". Jolly good excuse for James to have a face scrub, cut-throat shave, hot steamy towels and beard tidy up. 10 Lira well spent. Afternoon nap was highpoint of the day. We ended up sitting on a leather lounge at the hotel and being periodically buzzed by two colourful budgies who were on day-release from their cage, singing and chirping like crazy. We eventually had dinner and a visit to a tea garden. Sight seeing could well begin tomorrow - strength was gathered and plans were made.
