Day 166, 17 December 2012, Planes, Trains and Automobiles - Travel Day! Final day in Cesky Krumlov - car to Prague Airport (3 hours) - plane to London Stanstead and train to Liverpool Street Station. Somewhat like a nationwide strike (except it's just the two of us), a massive sleep in is co-ordinated for tomorrow. Had a lovely morning walking around CK and discovering even more turning and twisting alleyways, shops tucked into cupboards and stunning views of the castle and surrounds. We re-visited a couple of jewellers and have hidden away our Christmas presents until next week. We haven't been overly happy with our lodgings - but on the upside, they give 10% off at several local restaurants - We gave the pizzeria LaTran a go for lunch and had the nicest mushroom pizza since Tangier, Morocco (wine, pizza, beer... about $8). That being the first course we headed back to the main square for a lunch special at the Chinese restaurant - $3 for a shared Chicken Kung-Pao.... heaven. Mind you, the Chinese lady's face almost cracked when we ordered one dish and no drinks... Our shuttle company for the trip back to Prague was Czech Shuttles - Awesome (definitely better than CK Shuttles, by a long shot). Got us to the airport with far too much time to spare - but with budget air travel it's just not worth getting delayed in a tunnel, by a prang or by snow... So we cooled our jets at Prague Airport and eventually took off. But not before EasyJet put the fear of god into 150 people - sitting on the tarmac, fully loaded plane, ready to go - and the lights went out - pitch black in the cabin for just a second or two.... and then the lights went on and a wobbling voice made a joke about putting another 50 pence in the meter for the trip home. Quite nervous making. In any event, made it to London safely - loving the Stansted Express train which got us to Liverpool Street Station quick smart, then a 10 minute hike up the road to give Tune Hotels a go (highly recommend them.... www.tunehotels.com) - bed is rock hard - but clean, new, loads of hot water and only £35 per night in the middle of London. Final event for the evening was a very, very, late dinner - about midnight due to the time difference - Poppies in the East End (www.poppiesfishandchips.co.uk).
Too cool. I don't know about Planes, Trains and Automobiles - but we've certainly hit every, single travellers food group today... Pizza, Chinese & Fish and Chips. Bring on the sleep some fruit for breakfast.
