Hello to all! We arrived in Sunny Auckland on Sunday 18th November and have been taking in the sights for the last few days. We have mainly been content to simply wander round the city and see where we end up, and what sights it has to offer, but we have done a few things besides getting lost!
We have been to the Auckland Museum, which was about a 20 minute walk from the centre in one of the huge domains (parks to you and me!) We watched a Maori Cultural show - supposedly one of the best New Zealand has to offer - if thats the best it has to offer then i think i must be an award winning actress - i am a more convincing Maori than the obvious actors we watched! We are hoping that it gives us something to compare our nextcultural show to -and that the latter will be miles better. My recommendation, save the money from the cultural show to go up the sky tower! The museum did have an amazing War memorial section, for both the first and second world wars, and several other wars they had participated in. It was very haunting looking at the memorial not long after Armastice, and the Holocaust Room almost made me cry - but it was a wonderful experience.
We have been up the skytower to watch the sun set over the city. We spent about 2 hours just sitting 220 metres up and watching the sun sink behind one of the volcanoes just beyond the harbour. We have some spectacular pictures to show you all when we get round to uploading them. We are off to see "We Will Rock You" tonight, so that should be fun! We will report back soon! Take care all x
