Hello!
Well today has been boiling hot and surprise surprise I got burnt!! Have had such a busy day but I must start with my adventures from last night...
I went back out at 9ish and headed towards the neon lights bit but then thought I'd get off the train early and pop into the government buildings because they have a free observation deck. So I just went wandering around on my own and then ended up surrounded by millions of homeless people who all camp out under the building at night. It was really weird because they were all well dressed with backpacks and stuff but they all had little tents made out of boxes! I don't know where they hide during the day because I haven't seen a single one! Anyway, after much wandering around I found my way into the building and up I went. It was pretty cool up there, tokyo looks just like new york at night time.
Then I jumped on the train to Shijuku, which is supposed to be the biggest and scariest train station in Japan but I thought no problemo! Got off the train and was dissapointed as the lights were crappy but I thought I would wander further until I found some food for dinner. It is surprisingkly hard to find somewhere with conveyor belt sushi here and I didnt want to risk a restuarant so I was about to give up with the whole thing and go home until this black guy came up to me and asked if I was english. I was soo happy to hear an english voice that I actually stopped rather than run away. I said I wanted some quick and cheap noodles so he said he could show me the perfect place...but I think he must have worked for them. Anyway you choose what you want from a sign on the street and then buy a ticket like a train ticket and then go inside and they have a place ready for you with a drink waiting and your food arrives about 2 seconds later and it was huge. I dont understand how japanese women are soo tiny but then they can eat loads. I have taken a pic of my food for you to see. I thought it would just be plain pork and noodles but it was like a soup with a boiled egg in the middle, very random but good stuff!
After that I thought I better go home because the trains finish at 12 and it was past 11. Couldnt find my train line anywhere. You have to find the right station depending on what line you need and I found everything except mine. Then I was panicking running through stations while the train guy was telling me it was closed!! I eventually found my way and got home just in time.
This is going to be such a long blog...sorry! Today I went up to Asakusa which is the traditional old bit of tokyo and it has the most famous temple. It was absolutely packed and had wicked stalls with all the souvenirs that I love and couldnt seem to find anywhere else. I have been on the hunt for postcards since I got here and now I have them. I was also desperate to see a geisha and thought that this would be the place but nothing. I found a little girl geisha type thing but I dont think thats the same thing!!
I then realised that I was drastically running out of money so went on an hour hunt for a cash machine and it wouldnt give me any. A machine yesterday wouklnt either so then I started to freak out a bit! I tried the machine about 4 times abnd then just before I walked off in a strop I tried a different one and it worked, so I got out tons of money just to make sure and then I went back to the market abd stocked up on stuff!!
After all that excitement I went to find somewhere to sleep for the night but the place that I wanted was full up and the other ones are ages away so I have just stayed in the same place that I have been the whole time. I've found my capsule hotel for 2moro though so that should be fun even though it costs more than a night in a proper room here!!
I wanted to try and find the imperial palace today but after hours of wandering around the park and getting quite red I just gave up and decided to try and find me suomesushi for dinner. I found a nice looking restuarant with a queue outside and opted for the standard lunch menu which is 8 pieces of fish and some wrap type thingy. I have to say it was the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten. I was gagging as I tried to eat it and had to give up after half of it because I thought I was going to pass out. Japanese people would be brilliant on the eating challenge in i'm a celebrity get me out of here if they can eat that rubbish, I can feel it still swimming around in my stomach! Anyway I made a swift exit, very embarrassed because I tknew they were all watching to see if I liked it. Won't be making that mistake again!
After that excitement I went into the sony center which has all the new cameras, phones etc which will be coming out soon. That was pretty cool but my feet were killing me so I decided to go to the cinema. When I got there I couldnt see anything for 2 hours so I went to the top of this tower in Rappongi and to an art gallery and then it was time to get me some popcorn and watch a bit of stradust. I thought it was brilliant, on the edge of my seat the whole way through!! It was nice to get a dose of english too. I'm soo ready for bed now, I have decided to give mount fiji a miss because I will just get there and take a pic and then leave so instead I'm going to....DISNEYLAND!! woohoo!! I can't wait!
I'll be leaving early for Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday morning so I might not get a chance to write until then. I hopeyour all ok. Aoife I can't handle the crisp challenge because they only have really weird crisps here that scare me!
Love from the little traveller xxx
