Hello Everyone!!
I've had such an exciting day! It started off by waking up at 1am, then 2, then 2:10 etc until I finally gave up and got out of bed at 3:30am. Luckily nobody every came to share my room with me so I was able to get up and sort myself out. Was feeling a bit sad but probably just because I was scared about the day. Anyway I got dressed and there was a hairdryer in the bathroom which was a bonus and then I prayed my hair straigtheners would work and the little light came on so I was over the moon. But then disaster struck and 10mins later I was still waiting for them to heat up so I could get burnt but...nothing! Apparently the voltage is too low here so I have to have frizzy fringe for weeks! Uhoh!!
Anyway I am over that now and you should see the state of me but as I can't understand what anyone is saying I am just going to pretend I am invisble to them!! So I left my hostel at 5am to get the train to the fish market but I couldn't find the station because it was still dark and then it started raining so I was angry. Everything was ok though because I had just walked in the wrong direction and the station was actually only 30seconds away from my hostel! Found my way easily on the train to the fish market and just followed a man in wellies until I got there. It was amazing and sooo frantic. There is HUGE fish everywhere but also eels, and clam type things, octopus etc! It was crazy. I just hid behind my camera and ignored the fish guts everywhere! They have these little stand up car things that they all drive and they will kill you if you get in the way. I was doing ok but the stupid americans were rubbish, they all had tour guides but were still all over the place! I am a seasoned traveller so I knew what to do, haha!!
Anyway I was pretty much sick of the fish and guts by 6:15 so was then a bit puzzled about what to do! Nothing else that I wanted to do opened until 9am so I did what all good british girls would do and I went to McDonalds for breakfast! I was supposed to have sushi but I just couldn't face it, I think I will only get around to trying it on my last day. It is just too scary!!
Afterwards I wandered across the tsukiji hongwanji buddhist temple. It was really nice inside, all the business men were coming in quickly on their way to work and having a little bow in front of the buddha dude! I was going to have a go but thought they might think I was having a laugh! After this the rain started and didn;t really stop all day! I was going to go to park in this same area but I couldn;t be bothered in the rain so I headed back on the train to Rappongi. There is a huge area there called Rappongi Hills which has a huge 54 storey tower full of shops and some of the world's top companies. It was pretty cool to see it especially at 8ish when all the business people are rushing in. At this point I gave up because all the shops were closed so I sat in Starbucks for an hour with a book I stole from the hostel and read up on places to go. Then I went for another explore. It feels soo safe in Tokyo, soo much safer than London. Everybody leaves their umbrellas outside shops and in restaurants and my hostel you just leave your shoes at the front door. You would never dream of leaving your shoes outside in England!!
As I was wandering around I went off track a bit and thought I knew where I was going but it turns out I didn't and I walked about 3 miles in the wrong direction. I only found out because I was at a train station about 6 stops from where I had started! There were guards at every corner when I was walking so I think some bug shot was visiting. The Rappongi area is really posh with only top designer shops like Tiffanys so I wasn't really dressed appropriately for them!!
There are absolutely no scalllies or thuggish looking people here which is always a nice thing. I haven't seen a single fat person either!! It just seem that everyone is either a school girl or a business man but everyone is really lovely.
After Rappongi I decided to go to the Tokyo Metropolitan museum of photography which meant getting on the train again! The trains here are really cool, you just buy the cheapest ticket availavle at the station and then when you get where you want you update your ticket and it tells you how much you owe! I'm quite the pro now, I even helped an American couple who didn't understand! Actually walking around Tokyo is impossible, I have a map but none of the streets have names and there are no addresses so you can't find anything! I couldn't find the museum at all so I got in another taxi and had the same trouble of him just talking at me and me not having a clue. So I found the world hospital in my phrase book (thanks liz) as it is supposed to be across the road from it so we just kept saying "hospice hospice" and I didn't know where the hell we were going. Then he was trying to guess my age and telling me he was 50, it was very strange. It ended up costing me more than all my trains today (about 8 trains) but we got there and the museum was pretty good and free so that was good. But on the way out I realised there was this underground walkway system which I could have used to get there for free!! Its all about learning eh!?
I saw this car coming out of a garage and it was just like in Too fast too furious (tokyo drift) with the revolving car thingy. You drive onto it and type in your parking code then a lift come up and takes your car and puts it in its place!! How cool is that!? Then when you want it back you type in your number and it comes out, turns around on the revolver and your ready to go!! Love it!!
After that I didn't know what to do so I went to Shibuya which has the largest pedestrian crossing in the world. It was crazy there is about 6 crossings and you wait about 3 mins and then the lights are green and its manic!! I snuck upstairs in starbucks to take some pics because they had the best view. At Shubuya station there is a statue of a dog (Hachinko). He used to come and meet his owner at the station from work very day and after his owner died he still went to the station everyday for 10 years so they made a statue of him! How cute!
After that I went to a huge department store called Tokyo Hands, it literally had everything but I was soo tired I couldn't even be bothered to look. Now I'm back at the hostel, I have been moved into a 8 bed female room now which is cramped but its nice enough as long as there is no snoring! I have booked another night here because I feel really at home here, they are lovely at reception and its quite homely. Then I will stay in a tradional japanese place one night and a capsule hotel on my last night. I'm hopefully going to the zoo 2moro if it stops raining and having a day trip to mount fiji one day too. I have to go back to Shibuja at night too because it is the major neon lights area and it has to be done at night time for full effect really. Its just like times square in new york but everything is in japanese. Cameron Dias and Brad Pitt do loads of acvertising here for crappy things I've never heard of!
I love Tokyo, but I'm just totally knackered all the time. Will hopefully be up at a normal hour 2moro!! Thanks for all my messages, keep em coming!! Sorry this is soo long but I've had such a long day!
Love ya xxxx
