Barden's Great Aussie Adventure 2015
Today began at Old Parliament House which is also now called Museum of Democracy. We spent an hour here and that was without reading a lot of things. Every Prime Minister had their desk in a different location and different curtains.
We then went to the War Memorial which has been done up over the last couple of years. This was my first visit but was really good. It is a massive place and very well done. The dome room at the back of pool was amazing. I have been in quite a few churches here and overseas and although the style mimics some features with stained glass pictures and mosaics, this was the best I have seen. The only downside was the behaviour of a tour guide who brought a group in just as we were about to leave. She wasn't happy Liam was making noises and was gesturing him to be quiet with a really sour look on her face. He wasn’t yelling or screaming, just making a few sounds in a normal tone. It really annoyed me because he is a two year so it is ridiculous to expect him to be silent. I don't think we should be unwelcomed because we have young kids.
We continued through the museum and there is so much to see. We spent 3 hours there and the boys were extremely well behaved. We didn’t get to read a lot of things with young kids in tow, but if you were to read everything you would need 2 days here. The kids section was great as it was interactive and helps you imagine what it was like. It should be for everyone though not just for kids as I thought it added to our experience too. We watched 3 videos while we were there which were really well done and worth making the time to see. The Afghanistan section didn’t have as much as I thought but I sill really enjoyed it as I can relate to it better being that it isn’t from a past era.
So much walking the last few days we are exhausted. So we decided to change our plans and extend our stay in Canberra by one day. This gives us a rest this afternoon. Shortly after we were back at camp, we got a thunderstorm which brought pea sized hail. Sydney has experienced a severe storm, tornado and large hail so we are doing alright. After a rest and both boys falling asleep just before dinner, we went out to City Walk where Canberra is claiming the World's Guinness Records for the most amount of lights on an artificial Christmas tree. It looked good but the highlight was the light tunnel with LED scenes of the "Twelve Days of Christmas". We went late (8:30) so the lights would look the best as it doesn’t get dark until then. The downside is as we found out, the kids activities and Santa finish at 8.
