Arrived into siem reap at 6ish, and headed for our hostel. Obviously couldn't check in at that time, but it had some amazing sofas on the roof terrace. We chilled there for quite a while, and I went for a swim in the pool. Very cool hostel.
At 12ish Lena got ahold of me. Wanting to go to a temple called Beang Melea. Sophie wasn't keen, she was enjoying sleeping in the sofas!! I headed out with Lena on a tuktuk. Quite a long way (about an hour from the hostel) but amazing to see the countryside, and nice to have a chat along the way. Sadly we ran over a dog on the way :-( Lena was hoping we only broke its leg or something, but I hope we killed it as its a much quicker death then starving because it can't get food :-( not the best start!
Arrived at the temple, an it was amazing, and really not too busy which was very nice, wandered around for about 45mins. Real nice, still sunny weather (although we got rained on on the tuktuk for about 10 mins). I will upload photos at some point!
Headed back and got a coconut as Lena loves them, I'm not so keen, they're nice, but really just taste like water, and are 3 times as expensive as a water!! Luckily didn't run over anymore animals on the way back, but did pick up some local food. Basically looked like a bit of bamboo being cooked, but you peel away the bamboo to reveal some amazing rice and beans inside, was delicious, but one o those foods you wonder if you'll be seeing again due to stomach bugs!!
Went back to lena's hostel so she could shower and stuff, and I had a few beers, it was happy hour so only $0.50 each :-D although when comparing to Vietnam, it's soooo expensive!!
We went back to my hostel, and found sophie in the room getting ready, and headed up to the roof bar for drinks and a bit of food.
Met two kiwi guys who live in Siem Reap and organise pub crawls, so chilled with them for a while. Eventually they headed off to promote, and we chilled for a bit more. Out hostel is great, but because its so big and there are so many seating options, it's harder to meet people (as opposed to hostels with one table). Eventually headed out to 'pub street' (literally what it is called) and ended up in a pub called yolo. Chilled and drank and met people there for ages, even one of the kiwi guys from earlier showed up after a while. Nice evening :-D
