Zahra from Santiago had written to me yesterday saying thar she got to Buenos Aires and wanted to meet up. We set a time for 10am at the Plaza de Mayo. However, I got up a quarter to 10...As soon as I saw the time, I rushed to get ready. I aslo had to pack my things because I was checking out today. I arrived at the Plaza de Mayo at 10:30am, but Zahra was nowhere to be found.
I felt really bad, and proceeded to the nearest internet cafe to let her know that I arrived late and if she still wanted to meet, we could do so later in the day. It was times like these where I wished I had not lost my cellphone...
I was planning to go to San Telmo today as well as LaBoca, the home of the famous Boca Juniors (although most argentineans hate them). As I was walking through the streets, I noticed that every newpaper stand sold magazines as well and they did not care much about the fact that their erotic magazines were in plane view. In fact, they were places in a way where you wouldn't be able to not notice them. Ahhh...Argentina...
Once I got to LaBoca, I strolled along the famous El Caminito that had artistic paintings of tango as well as live tango shows on the street. It was also another good spot for shopping. This street was very different from the rest of LaBoca, which houses very poor families and is usually one of the most danerous places of Buenos Aires, filled with a lot of crime.
While I was walking back to the hostel, this girl came up to me and asked me in Spanish where a street was. Seconds later, I got her phone number. I think this as the fastest amount of time I have ever achieved this. Here was our conversation:
Girl: Sabes donde es la calle Cruzeiro?
Me: Pienso que es para alla.
Girl: Oh, you speak English, where are you from?
Me: Canada
Girl: How long are you here for?
Me: I'm leaving today.
Girl: Oh, that is too bad, well next time you are in Buenos Aires, definitely give me a call...
Recorded time: 17.2 seconds
When I got back to the hostel to pick up my things, at 5pm, I had to hurry as much as possible since my bus was at 6:30pm. I took the subte and got there at 6:10pm. It was now a race to figure out where my bus was leaving from. One needs to understand that Buenos Aires is a big city, therefore the bus terminal is also extremily big with about 200 gates. As I ran through the terminal asking any employee I saw where to go, I finally got to the gate (all the way at rhe end of the terminal) at 6:25pm.
I got on the bus, sweaty, but relieved. I was now off to Iguazu, one of the wonders of the world...
