On the bus ride to Buenos Aires. I ended up talking with an elderly lady that was coming back from Mendoza with her two daughters and many of her friends. They were in Mendoza celebrating el "Dia del Amigo", something that they celebrate every year. Throughout this conversation, I realized how different argentineans speek (they have the same flow like italians and the pronunciation is very different on some words, especially the double "L"). I also realized that argentineans are a lot nicer and so much more welcoming than any other country. One of her daughters came and gave me her house address, phone, and email, and told me that whenever I wanted to come by, I was always welcome.
Along the trip, there was also a couple right next to us that was arguing the whole ride there (even in the night!). I was so gald that I was doing this trip alone. Although there are times where it would be great to have a girl next to you during those romantic sceneries, there are a lot more disadvantages if the girl is difficult...
I arrived in Buenos Aires at around 12pm. Taking the metro was fairly easy, however, here, they call it the subte. When I got to the stop of my hostel, I got a first impression of what Buenos Aires was going to be like. Right in front of me was a big neon sign that said SEX SHOP, as well as a restaurant right beside offering asado (BBQ meat) and their best wine!
When I entered my hostel, I was amazed by the size and beauty of it. It was easily the biggest hostel that I have ever been to with a capacity of 200 people! Ironically, they had free internet, but only had two computers in the whole hostel. They had a bar, restaurant, and 6 floors of crazy backpackers ready to party!
My room wasn't ready so I decided to go to my favorite spot...a tenedor libre...with sushi! I got back to the hostel and was excited that I was spending the weekend here, because Buenos Aires is known for its crazy parties. I called Emily, the girl I met in Valparaiso, as well as Ines, a cousin of Wanda, a friend back home in Montreal. I was going to meet Emily today at 3pm and Ines tomorrow at 4pm.
Emily came with a friend of hers. They were shopping in San Telmo. We went to the Plaza de Mayo and they both tried to give me an explanation of the area, at least what they were told. Afterwards, they took me to a port where there was a bridge that looked like a tango dancer. We also passed by a club that they recommended I go to, however the clubs in Buenos Aires are really expensive, something I was going to find out later today. We went around some more until they had to go home for supper around 7pm.
When I got back to my hostel, I called Gustavo and Liliana, the couple that I met in Copacabana. They invited me for lunch on Sunday. I was getting used to the eating hours here since I wasn't hungry until about 8pm. I went to this restaurant that the hostel recomended to me. At the restaurant I planned out all of the things that I wanted to do during my stay here.
I went to go on the internet until around 12am. There, I ended up talking with the owner of the internet place. His name was Juan Carlos and we spoke about the differences in Argentina compared to the other places in South America. He was really nice, I had this feeling with everyone that I met here.
When I got back, the party had started at the hostel. Here, people pre-party until around 2am, and then go out until 8am. I met this girl named Jenni at the hostel. She was from New York, studying theatre, and was really candid about the fact that she liked being promiscuous on vacation. We talked almost all night until Emily came (I had invited her to come out).
I ended up talking with Emily for a bit and asked my hostel what the price was for the club tonight. We were going to go out to Crobar, and the price for transportation (there only) and entrance was 60 pesos (pretty steep, but how many times am I in Buenos Aires?). Emily and her friend decided not to come out with me eventually because they were low on cash. Once I said bye to Emily, I had noticed that Jenni was gone.
Because I had already paid for my ticket, I was going alone to a club where I did not know anyone...this was going to be interesting...
On the way to the club, I talked to some Brasilian girls, however, once we entered, they seemed like they wanted to do their own thing. I got a drink and sat next to the bar. About 10 minutes late, there was a girl that came up to me and asked me if I was bored. I explained her the funny story (or sad story) of how I got here, and she invited me to come party with her friends...all girls...We had lots of fun, but the club played only techno, and you can only have so much fun with techno.
We all left at 5am. I took my own taxi because I was going another way. Cost of the night including ticket, drinks, and taxi: 140 pesos. Partying in Buenos Aires: pricele....who am I kidding! That was a frecken expensive night!!!!
