G'day Bruce... or should I say Breece?
So currently I am looking at a David Bennett exact copy-lookalike-person. Kind of scary. Dave, you work in a hostel in Cairns, if you didn't already know. Also, everybody I meet think I am Irish. I wouldn't mind being Irish, but I am not. At least three people a day ask if I am Irish. I think I may become Irish...
So what have I been up to... pretty much just chilling out after the adventures earlier on down the coast. We left Airlie and headed up to Townsville, and caught a ferry across to Magnetic island. It is full of wildlife, parrots (like they are not wildlife...) and great snorkelling bays. We hired a mini-moke (see photos!) to drive around the island and Robb and I went snorkelling in Florence bay. My heart did skip many many heart beats as a stingray passed me by about a meter! Absolutely incredible to see one in the wild. (Don't worry, we had stinger suits on, all clear!) We also saw a shrimp cleaning out the homes of other fish (pretty incredible) and a number of jelly fish (we steered clear of them!) I think I am addicted to snorkelling now though! Shame all you can see is mud and empty beer cans in England!
We then wizzed back to Townsville for a couple of days, managed to go to the aquarium where they have a living fully sustainable reef, the only one in the world. It was a really interesting place, and managed to get our own tour as the place was empty! Fully air-conditioned buildings are a god-send after being in humid 30degree heat. Luckily the heat wave is down in Sydney at the moment! Hitting the 40s.
Robb, Ryan and I have become famous backpackers! The Englishman, Welshman and Scotsman. We met a few people that have said 'We've heard about you three'. Not sure if that is a good thing or not, but hey, we're are famous on the east coast!
Slightly snorifying blog, but I haven't really done anything! Mick and Emily have set off on their travels now, so I am planning a few weeks of entertainment for them post new year!
Best of luck with all the xmas concerts everyone, don't stuff up the Sib 1 solo lil! And sending lots of love back to the gale country.
Happy 22nd November!!
Nick xx
